Last night four impressive upcoming bands battled it out on stage at Aces ‘n Spades bar in Cape Town, to win the coveted prize of becoming the Opening Act at the Electric Vines New Years Eve Musicfest, to play beside the likes of Prime Circle, Jimmy Nevis and Jesse Clegg, to name but a few who will be performing at this Stellar line up of Music Stars.
Jono Grayson was up first and performed brilliantly, very confident in front of the 150 throng of guests who were there to support their favourite band. He was very well supported and the judges were definitely impressed. Next up was Texas Radio who made a blast onto the stage with their young, breathtaking energy and presence. This band were in complete contrast to Grayson, two totally opposite genres of music and performances. Jackal and the Wind had an amazing confidence and were full of fun and brilliance, they had a crowd up dancing during their first song and were a truly positive fun band to watch. The last band GraceTown made a superb impression on the crowd, with the kind of music that has everyone up on their feet. Energetic, positive with great melodies you could see that these four young guys were really enjoying performing for the crowd.
The judges had a very difficult decision and there was much debate between Jimmy Nevis, Louise Day and Craig Reid. Whilst the decision was being made Paul Snodgrass, who MC’d the event kept the crowd entertained with his brilliant humour.
Jethro Tait, GRACETOWN’s lead vocalist was ecstatic and the group were rewarded with Festival Tickets for their friends as well as a bottle of Monkey Shoulder Whisky and a box of Arabella Wine to celebrate. The 4 band members Eckard Salo, Jethro Tait, Jericho Hendricks and Ethan Salo will be opening the Festival in front of thousands of Festivalgoers on the 30th December at Arabella Estate, Robertson. Their first publicity appearance already booked for Expresso Breakfast show where they will perform ‘Dusty Roads’ and ‘Kristan Wood’ on Thursday 11 Dec.
Well done to all the bands who made it into the Finale and who performed and created an amazing Battle of the Bands!
