HISTORY + ALCOHOL = DRUNK HISTORY GET INTO THE (HIC) CHRISTMAS SPIRIT

Make a well-known character or story from US history, add a willing narrator, stir in some A list actors, and then sprinkle in some alcohol – well; a LOT of alcohol.  Wine, whisky, beer, vodka…it really doesn’t matter, as long as there’s a lot of it:  What do you get when you mix up this heady cocktail?  You don’t get history…You get something infinitely better, funnier and much more potent: you get “Drunk History”.

Drunk History (Season 1) airs on Comedy Central (DStv Channel 122) Monday to Friday from Monday 22 December @ 23:50 CAT.

Created for television by series host Derek Waters (@derekwaterss) and director Jeremy Konner, Drunk History partners inebriated storytellers up with A-list talent as they go on a tour through familiar and less familiar events from America’s past – reenacting great moments as the narrators stumble and slur their way through the re-telling.  With breaks for top ups, toilet trips and even a nap or too along the way – Drunk History provides get a new perspective on US culture – with unforgettable and hysterical results.

Intrepid narrators staggering their way through history’s great moments have included Kurt Braunohler, Paget Brewster, Eric Edelstein, Mark Gagliardi, Jen Kirkman, Morgan Murphy, Kyle Kinane, Natasha Leggero and Jenny Slate.   Fumbling and slurring their way through profiles on figures and seminal events, the narrators apply the Drunk History treatment to events such as the Watergate scandal, the invention of cocaine, the FBI’s attempt to assassinate Martin Luther King Jr., the invention of cereal by the Kellogg brothers, Dolly Parton’s separation from the man who made her famous, the midnight ride of Sybil Ludington, the Baltimore plot to assassinate Lincoln, and the Joe Louis v. Max Schmeling boxing fixtures of the late 1930s.  Other luminaries of Ameri an history targeted by the show include Edgar Allan Poe, Nellie Bly, Benedict Arnold, Teddy Roosevelt and the Rough Riders, Patty Hearst, and Lewis and Clark.

Among the guest stars obliged to act out the tipsy narratives verbatim are Jack Black, Lisa Bonet, Courteney Cox, Don Cheadle, Jim Carey, Laura Dern, Johnny Knoxville, John Lithgow, Patton Oswalt, Jordan Peele, Chris Parnell, Jason Ritter, Jeffrey Ross, Winona Ryder, Kristen Wiig, Luke Wilson, Owen Wilson, Zooey Deschanel and Jason Momoa.

Based on the award-winning and wildly popular web series, “Drunk History”; the show was created for television by Derek Waters and Jeremy Konner. Drunk History is produced by Gary Sanchez Productions and executive produced by Waters and Konner, along with Gary Sanchez Productions’ Will Ferrell, Adam McKay and Owen Burke.
