Patricia Arquette won Best Supporting Actress for her role in Boyhood. When the actress got on stage and started her speech, it all seemed fairly standard. The Oscar winner started her speech thanking her friends and family, her co-stars and director as well as various industry insiders. What came next, was two sentences that will go down as one of the greatest moments in Oscar history, as the actress used the platform to fight for equal pay for women:
“To every woman who gave birth, to every tax payer and citizen of this nation: We have fought for everybody else’s equal rights. It’s our time to have wage equality once and for all and equal rights for women in the United States of America!”
