Justin Bieber, who had personally requested a roasting, was not let off lightly by his comedian mates who jumped at the opportunity to make fun of the 21-year-old singer at his Comedy Central Roast in Culver City, Los Angeles on Saturday, 14 March 2015
Kevin Hart, who was dressed in blue robes for the start of the roast, led the way as Roast Master and was accompanied by fellow roasters including comedians and fellow stars: Ludacris, Snoop Dogg, Shaquille O’Neal, Natasha Leggero, Hannibal Buress, Chris D’Elia, Jeff Ross, and Pete Davidson and even Martha Stewart took a swing.
Will Ferrell, dressed as Ron Burgendy from Anchorman, made a surprise appearance and took a crack at roasting the One less lonely girl hitmaker
The Biebs, who looked dapper in a fitted blue suit, crisp white shirt, Lanvin satin tie, pink striped socks and Saint Laurent shoes with his blonde locks slicked back, provided us with many facial expressions and laughed in good humour at the jokes being made at his expense, even sticking his tongue out at some points, but also appearing defeated at some times during the roast
Naturally, there were familiar celebrity faces in the audience including model, friend and rumoured girlfriend Kendall Jenner and sister Kourtney who was taking a night off from the kids (and looking all kinds of fabulous, might we add, go Kourt!), Jaden Smith,Ashley Benson John Legend and wife Chrissy Tiegen, as well as the Biebs’ mentee, Carly Rae Jepson.
Some of the brutal jokes from the Biebs’ roast include:
“Tonight we’re going to give what his parents and the legal system should have done years ago,” host Kevin Hart said. “We’re going to give this boy an ass-whoopin.’”
“Selena Gomez wanted to be here, but she’s dating men now,” comedian Jeff Ross joked.
“Justin, as a father of six you have to straighten up, son,” Shaq said. “Last year, you were ranked the fifth most-hated person of all time. Kim Jong-Un didn’t rank that low. And he uses your music to torture people.”
Bieber laughed off most of the jokes, and at the end of the night got his own back when he remarked, “What do you get when you give a teenager $200 million?” Bieber asked. “A bunch of has-beens calling you a lesbian for two hours.”
Justin then took a more serious tone apologising for his recent bad behaviour and commented on changing his ways
“There was really no preparing me for this life. I was thrown into this at 12 years old,” he said.
“I didn’t know what I was getting myself into. There were moments I am proud of. And there are moments I am disappointed with myself for. But the things I have done don’t define who I am. I am kind-hearted person who loves people. And through it all, I have lost some of my best qualities. For that, I’m sorry.”
“I am looking forward to being someone you can all be proud of,” he said. “Someone close to me once said, ‘It’s how you rise from a fall that truly defines you as a man.’ I’m excited for that challenge. And I want to say thank you for taking this journey with me.”
