dislike button

After years of denying all Facebookers an alternative option to “like”, Facebook CEO Mark Zuckerberg revealed yesterday in a Q&A session that the company has been working on a “dislike” button feature.

“I think people have asked about the dislike button for many years,” Zuckerberg said. “Today is a special day because today is the day I can say we’re working on it and shipping it.”

Exactly what the “dislike” button will entail is still a mystery but Zuckerberg explained:  “What users really want is the ability to express empathy, as not every moment is a good moment.”

Zuckerberg had initially refused to include a “dislike” button because he was concerned that it would invite negativity, which he further expressed by saying, “That isn’t what we’re here to build in the world.”

further expressing that he did not want it to be a mechanism with which people could “down vote” others’ posts.

Instead, it will be for times when clicking “like” on “sad” posts felt insensitive.

Brace yourself folks, you might be getting more “dislikes” on certain posts/pictures/selfies than “likes”.
