Have you been burning rubber on the treadmill and cycling like a Tour de France champ with not a single change on the scale? Well, it could be that you’re doing too much cardio.

Yes, you read that right – too much cardio. More is not always best when it comes to cardio, and if your goal is to torch fat and build muscle, you need train smart. Too much cardio can be counterproductive and make you lose muscle. It can lead to injuries and you can also start suffering from fatigue and drastic mood changes. Lots of running can also lead to an increase in cortisol (the stress hormone) levels and suppress your immune system. That’s why some marathon runners come down with colds after their races…

That hour of cardio is great for burning stored energy, but when you’re done on the treadmill or the bike, you’re done burning calories. Weight training, on the other hand, keeps your metabolism at an elevated energy-use rate, which means you’ll still be burning calories for about an hour after you’re done. Perfs!

So get yourself a weight training programme (find one that also incorporates cardio) that suits you and get into the pit with all the other gorillas. And girl, soon you’ll be posting all the #fitfam #gains #fitspo pics your heart desires.
