Words we never thought we would utter, considering how meticulous momager Kris Jenner is when it comes to contracts and work. But ‘tis true, the Jenner sisters are being sued.
The plaintiff: swim and beachwear conglomerate, Island Company.
The reason: apparently Kendall and Kylie are kopykats.
But it’s not only Kendall and Kylie who are being sued – mass retailer PacSun, who worked with the brand, are also being sued.
Okay, enough legal talk and more fashion jargon. Kendall and Kylie’s collection for PacSun is described as “inspired by the diversity, optimism and creativity of the Golden State,” and features an array of denim dresses, T-shirts and off-the-shoulders tops, but it’s those pesky tees that are causing this whole legal debacle.
The particular T-shirt causing the most drama? The one that reads “Run away. Fall in love. Never return”. While it feels dreamy and romantic to us, it feels like a slap in the face to Island Company whose trademark logo reads: Quit your job. Buy a ticket. Get a tan. Fall in love. Never return.”
Page Six revealed the official complaint, which stated that the uncanny similarity between the Jenners’ PacSun collab and Island Company motto “is likely to cause confusion, mistake and deception among consumers, the public and the trade as to whether defendants’ products or services are affiliated with, sponsored by or endorsed by plaintiff.”
If Island Company succeeds, PacSun will essentially be forced to remove the slogan from all their pieces.
Dang!
