Following the death of David Bowie, the world has lost another great. It was today confirmed that the British actor Alan Rickman passed away after losing his battle with cancer.
A family statement read: “The actor and director Alan Rickman has died from cancer at the age of 69. He was surrounded by family and friends.”
You may remember him as the coldly sarcastic Professor Severes Snape from the Harry Potter franchise; however the celebrated and respected British actor’s filmography includes hit movies such as Love Actually, Die Hard, Truly Madly Deeply and Robin Hood: Prince of Thieves. It’s thanks to Die Hard that he shot to fame, playing Bruce Willis’ enemy Hans Gruber in 1988. His accolades also include a Golden Globe Award for Best Performance by an Actor in a Mini Series or Motion Picture made for Television(1997), Emmy Award for Outstanding Lead Actor(1196), BAFTA Award for Best Actor in a Supporting Role (1992), and many more.
“Talent is an accident of genes, and a responsibility,” he once said. It is responsibility he fulfilled until the very end.”
