Beyoncé’s new single, “Formation”, proves once again why she’s the queen… While we were asleep in SA, Bey released the new song on hubby Jay Z’s music streaming site, TIDAL, on Saturday evening – the night before her Super Bowl half-time performance.
And Bey’s new song is making waves for all the right reasons: the video is among the most politically direct work she’s done in her career, with implicit commentary on police brutality, Hurricane Katrina and black financial power.
Here’s the full vid for those of you who missed it:
Naturally, Bey performed her new single at the Super Bowl last night and at one point during the song, Bey’s dancers formed an “X” on the field, which is thought to reference black rights campaigner Malcolm X.

Beyoncé also managed to use her slot to make a highly political point by performing with backing dancers in costumes inspired by armed rights group The Black Panthers, which was once dubbed “the greatest threat to the internal security of the country” by FBI director J. Edgar Hoover.
Thank you, Beyoncé, for using your voice and the platform you have been given to raise awareness about issues that matter. Beyoncé for president!
