America Ferrera (Betty Suarez)
Playing Beatriz U. Suarez made America Ferrera an international star. Her portrayal of the fashion-challenged-magazine-assistant-turned-stylish-editor landed her a Golden Globe, Screen Actors Guild Award and Primetime Emmy. After leaving Betty behind at her new job in London, Ferrera earned raves for her guest-starring role on The Good Wife, voiced one of the characters in the blockbuster 3D computer-animated film How to Train Your Dragon and played Roxie Hart in the musical Chicago in London’s West End.
Tony Plana (Ignacio Suarez)
It’s hard to see Tony Plana as anything but Betty Suarez’s doting father Ignacio on Ugly Betty. But in 2011, the Cuban-American actor had us saying “¡No puede ser!” when he guest-starred on Desperate Housewives as Gabrielle Solis’ (Eva Longoria) abusive stepfather, Alejandro Perez.
Ana Ortiz (Hilda Suarez)
Hilda Suarez may have moved out of her father’s house to live with her son and boyfriend in the final episode of Ugly Betty, but her portrayer Ana Ortiz went on to land a side-splitting recurring role as a sex-crazed police offer on HBO’s Hung. Next, she’ll move to Beverly. Hills, that is.
Salma Hayek (Sofia Reyes)
Salma Hayek pulled double-duty on Ugly Betty. Not only did she serves as one of the show’s executive producer, but she guest-starred as MYW Editor-In-Chief Sofia Reyes, the woman who manipulated Daniel into falling in love with and proposing to her so she could make him the subject of her magazine’s premiere issue. The role earned the Mexican actress a Primetime Emmy Award nomination for Outstanding Guest Actress – Comedy Series.
