We caught up with the 26-year old and got all the details…

What was it like shooting this production, directed by Sheetal Magan and produced by Jeremy Nathan?

The process was very intense for me, that I had never experienced before. We had an extensive amount rehearsals before we started filming.

What can we expect from your character?

She’s a strong woman. Who wont let her culture and upbringing determine who she is as woman.

‘Paraya’ will premier at this year’s Cannes International Film Festival, tell us more about that?

Paraya is a part of a co-production between France and South Africa. It will be screened under the South African Factory in Quinzaine de realisateurs 12th May 2016 which is incredibly exciting. I can’t wait for everyone to see it and experience the fruits of our labour.

How do you relate your own life to that of your character?

We have so many similarities. We are both determined to pave our own life’s journeys contrary to what our culture tells us to do.

Who do you act along side, and what was that like?

Richard Linkukhu plays an incredible supporting character. He was an absolute to dream to work with.

Why is this movie important to you as an actress?

Working with Sheetal and Martin was incredible. They both pushed me to be a stronger performer. They forced me to get in touch with a side of myself that I wasn’t comfortable with, which I am forever grateful for.

What important message can you take out of the movie that you want the viewers to embrace?

To not be afraid to be who you are, and to fight for what you believe in.

When will the movie be released, and will South Africans be able to catch it?

Paraya will be screened at this years Durban Film Festival.

Not only is Paraya about to be released, you can catch the talented actress on Skeem Saam every Monday to Friday, 18:30 on SABC 1, as she plays a Brazilian inmate, named Vania.
