What started out as a typical Hollywood divorce quickly escalated in a matter of days.
AMBER FILES FOR DIVORCE
Last week, on May 25, we told you that Amber Heard, 30, had filed for divorce from Johnny Depp, 52, on May 23 after nearly two years of marriage, citing irreconcilable differences. It was also announced that the couple had not signed a prenup and that Amber was asking for spousal support from Johnny – something Johnny was opposing. We also learnt that Johnny’s mother had passed away on May 20, just days before Amber filed for divorce.
JOHNNY PUBLICLY RESPONDS
On May 26, Depp responded with a statement via his rep: “Given the brevity of this marriage and the most recent and tragic loss of his mother, Johnny will not respond to any of the salacious false stories, gossip, misinformation and lies about his personal life,” his rep told People in a statement. “Hopefully the dissolution of this short marriage will be resolved quickly.”
AMBER ANNOUNCES DOMESTIC VIOLENCE
On Friday May 27, Amber officially filed a temporary domestic violence restraining order, which she was granted, against Johnny.
In her court filing, she alleged that Depp was verbally and physically abusive toward her throughout their four-year relationship. She stated that the latest incident was on May 21, when she says Depp argued with her and hit her in the eye with a cell phone when he threw it at her face. She submitted photos of her apparently bruised face and damaged property from their apartment as evidence. “He has a short fuse. He is often paranoid and his temper is extremely scary for me, as it has proven many times to be physically dangerous and/or life-threatening to me,” she declared in her statement.
LILY-ROSE DEPP AND VANESSA PARADIS RESPOND
Johnny Depp’s daughter, Lily-Rose Depp, responded to the abuse claims by posting a photo on Instagram with the caption: “My dad is the sweetest most loving person I know, he’s been nothing but a wonderful father to my little brother and I, and everyone who knows him would say the same.”
Celebrity news website TMZ posted a photo of a handwritten letter that it said it had obtained from Johnny’s former partner of 14 years, Vanessa Paradis, on Sunday which was dated Friday May 27.
