We all know the legend that is Mariah Carey. We love her for her soft melodies, powerful voice, ladylike diva persona and her five-octave vocal range that reaches the famous F sharp note. And now we finally get to see the person behind the voice.

Yes gals, Mariah’s reality show, Mariah’s World, has finally hit our small screens. The show gives us a peek into the singer’s everyday life, and if the trailer is anything to go by, her life is just what we expected: fabulous! It’s all about glittery dresses, Champagne and rehearsals. This line seems to sum it up best: “I won’t be seen in fluorescent lighting without wearing sunglasses.” #Slay

This year’s PSL Awards will be officially hosted by TV personality Minnie Dlamini. Alongside her Soccerzone co-host, Thomas Mlambo, the awards will be broadcast live on SABC 1 on May 30 at 8:30pm.

This marks the 4^th time Minnie hosts the PSL Awards, which is an evening dedicated to honouring South African football players, coaches and officials.

”I am honoured for this opportunity,” says Minnie. “I love sports and the PSL Awards is a show that feels like home to me – it’s the Oscars of the football fraternity. I’m grateful for the platform to host the awards for the 4th time. My team and I are planning a spectacular evening.”

The star is known for her brave fashion choices when hosting and attending events, and given that she is teaming up with her stylist Francois Louw, we know that the PSL Awards would be no different.

”We are going chic and less dramatic – the audience will be surprised and very excited,” says Francois.

After the move to 90% local music on all 18 SABC-owned radio stations was announced and implemented last week, SABC COO Hlaudi Mostoeneng has announced his next challenge – 80% local content on SABC channels, especially SABC3.

“I have been chairing a meeting where I have been dealing with this issue of content. I am going to revamp SABC3. It will be 80% local movies,” Motsoeneng said.

“We want to be at a place where South Africans can produce their own movies in their own languages, so we can compete internationally,” he explained.

Speaking to City Press on Sunday, Hlaudi said that he understands this may be challenging and risky task, but it seems it is one he is more than willing to take. “I know this is a risk… I like risk because if I can’t take a risk, it means we can’t move as a country to change South Africa, especially on the content side,” he explained.

“If I fall, good. At least I tried something special. In this position that we hold, you can’t be afraid of taking a risk. Even if the majority of the team at the SABC says no we don’t agree with you, as long as I believe in it,” he said.

BLACK COFFEE TO WIN INTERNATIONAL ACHIEVEMENT AWARD AT 2016 SAMAs

DJ Black Coffee is set to receive the highly sought-after International Achievement Award at the 22^nd Annual SAMAs taking place at the Durban ICC on June 4. This comes as no surprise as the DJ and music producer (real name Nkosinathi Maphumulo) has been jet-setting around the world, appearing on international stages. Not only did he perform at the Ultra Music Fest in Miami and Coachella last month, he was also chosen to grace the cover of MixMag – the first African DJ to have this honour – and was named the dance music magazine’s Star of the Year. Black Coffee has also been keeping us posted on IG on his new friends like P Diddy and Wiz Khalifa… will we be seeing a collab soon? Here’s hoping!

CIARA LOST SOLE CUSTODY BATTLE WITH FUTURE

In her pursuit of sole custody of her 1-year-old son, Future Zahir Wilburn, whom she had with rapper Future, Ciara was left Speechless after the judge ruled in favour of Future’s appeal for joint custody, which the California courts favour.

According to TMZ, the 30-year-old singer claimed that Future is a bad parent who is not present in their child’s life, and reportedly portrayed him as a bad person… which is very similar to when Future publicly said that he had an issue with Russell Wilson (Ciara’s fiancé) being around his son.

KYLIE JENNER AND TYGA SEX TAPE LEAK

A sex tape featuring Kylie Jenner and Tyga was reportedly leaked on the rapper’s website for approximately 30 minutes before it was taken down. According to News24, the reality star is scared of the sex tape getting into the wrong hands and being leaked again – especially after several people took to Twitter claiming to have the footage and threatening to leak it.

SABC INCREASES MUSIC ROYALTY FEE

On Thursday, the SABC announced that the public broadcaster will increase the royalty fee paid to artists for music content played on its 18 radio stations and TV channels from 3.2 percent to 4 percent. This news follows the broadcaster’s decree of a 90 percent local music quota on all their radio stations.

LADY GAGA DEFENDS KESHA USING A DISNEY VILLAIN 

After being sued by Kesha for alleged sexual assault and battery, music producer Dr Luke banned the singer from performing at the Billboard Music Awards on May 22. His label, Kenosabe Records, then “rescinded its approval” in fear of the singer opening up about their legal battle. But when Lady Gaga heard about this, she took to Twitter to compare Dr Luke to Disney villain Ursula, who took Ariel’s voice away in The Little Mermaid.

The first season of The Voice South Africa has come to end and saw the first winner announced last night: Richard Stirton, whose coach was Parlatones frontman Kahn Mornbee!

The grand finale took place and was broadcast live from Sasani Studios in JHB and included performances by Vusi Mahlasela, popular Afrikaans singer Riana Nel, as well as Voice SA coaches Karen Zoid, Bobby van Jaarsveld and Lira.

Richard not only walks away with the crown, he also gets a recording contract from Universal Studios and prizes worth more than R800 000.

“I am on top of the world right now. Really, I’m so happy. I can’t believe it. I was listening to news bulletins talking about me this morning and I really never thought I would hear my name and ‘The Voice SA winner’ in the same sentence.”

TREVOR NOAH TALKS RACIAL DISCRIMATION IN AMERICA

Golden boy and The Daily Show host Trevor Noah opened up to Playboy about some of the racial discrimination he’s faced while living in NYC. “It’s often very small things but they pile up. Cab drivers don’t pick you up. Or you go into a corner store and get followed. Or people say things about you. It’s often not blatant, but it’s entrenched,” he told the mag.

Footage surfaced this weekend on Instagram from Blue’s dance recital showing the 4-year-old dance to You Can’t Stop The Beat from Hairspray. Suh cute!

STANDARD BANK WAS A VICTIM OF FRAUD

According to a statement released by Business Day earlier today, Standard Bank was “the victim of a sophisticated, coordinated fraud incident. This involved the withdrawal of cash using a small number of fictitious cards at various ATMs in Japan. The target of the fraud has been Standard Bank and there has been no financial loss for customers.”

Adele’s new song, Send My Love (To Your New Lover), made its debut at last night’s BBMAs right after the singer received the award for Best Album. Interestingly, this is only the second music video off Adele’s album, 25, since Hello. Adele’s second released single, When We Were Young, didn’t get a video – although she did release a video of her performing the song in studio.

The video sees Adele standing still against a stark black background for the opening verse, but as soon as the beat drops, Adele starts to dance as different versions of herself.
