AMERICAN HUSTLE: OUT IN CINEMA’S TOMORROW

$
0
0

Set during the 1970s (think bad perms and awesome aviators), a time when scammers and mobsters reigned supreme, American Hustle tells the story of brilliant con man Irving Rosenfeld (Christian Bale) and his equally scheming and seductive British partner-in-crime (and love) Sydney Prosser (Amy Adams). The two are forced to work for a wild FBI agent, Richie DiMaso (Bradley Cooper). Eager to make a name for himself, DiMaso forces the pair into a world of Jersey powerbrokers and Italian mafia that’s as dangerous as it is enchanting in order to net a bigger fish. Irving’s unpredictable wife (Jennifer Lawrence) may be the loose thread that brings the whole scheme and calculated world crashing down.

Just when you think you know what is about to happen, the storyline changes and keeps you on your toes. We are so excited for American Hustle to open tomorrow!

Our photographer Roxanne Lindenberg is the girl behind nearly every single one of our Grazia shoot – we just love her and, no surprise, she just loves cameras.

“I have been collecting film cameras for some time now; they all have a little history of their own which is why I love them so. It just makes me happy that in the digital world we live, film is not dead,” says Rox.

KIDS OF INSTAGRAM

OUR FAVE KIDS ON INSTAGRAM

We all have our favourite celebs and fashionistas. We follow them on social media, especially on Instagram and love to see what they’re up to, where they are, who they’re with, all the while – most importantly – tracking their fashion. We have to confess… we love celeb kids and what they wear even more than the celebs themselves! Here are some of our fave star sprogs on Instagram.

North West

@kimkardashian

With her parents being the #WorldsMostTalkedAboutCouple, does it really come as a surprise that we can’t get enough of the adorable, chubby-cheeked almost one-year-old Nori? Even though photos of her are not a regular occurrence, when the pics are up, they sure are charming! Little Kim’s designer wardrobe is growing quickly and might soon even be bigger than mom’s. #jealous.

Duke Rancic

@giulianarancic and @billrancic

Son of the famous and entertaining G & B Rancic, this charismatic little guy is the apple of their eye. And we completely get why. He regularly features on Giuliana and Bill’s IG accounts, and we love how he sometimes looks exactly like Giuliana and other times exactly like Bill! Plus, at almost two years old, the kid has some serious fashion sense, no doubt influenced by his fashionista mama. He has his own Twitter account (@dukerancic) too!

Blue Ivy

@beyonce

We love Beyoncé – the woman can simply do no wrong. So no surprise then that we love her daughter, Blue, even more. Mrs Carter deserves some kudos for dressing Blue just right (or is two-year-old Blue already having her own say?), and we heart how B doesn’t share too much of the first daughter of hip hop on social media… to allow her to just be a little girl first.

Gia van der Walt

@leeann_liebenberg

Local It Girl Lee-Ann Liebenberg always beams with pride when she shares snaps of her eldest daughter, Gia. How precious is she? Dare we say the three-year-old is a natural model like Ma and a serious stylish fashionista? And now there’s little baby Gabriella too… Can’t wait for the two sisters to step out together!

Alia Rose

@monicarosestyle

Designer and stylist to the stars (including the Kardashian klan), Monica Rose clearly brings her work home with her, but no one seems to mind, especially not her kids. The result? A daughter dressed to impress causing a serious case of fashion envy. We adore Alia’s panache, and if we had to be completely honest, we wish we had her wardrobe!

Mason Kardashian

@kourtkardash and @letthelordbewithyou

Stealing our hearts with his cuteness and charm, Mason Dash Disick popped up on our fashion radar from a young age. Mom Kourtney and Dad Scott both have an eye for fashion, so it comes as no surprise that the four-year-old is “swagging” – just like his parents.

Yes! We have spoken about it before but it seems like ages since have seen a good old chick flick so we cannot wait for The Other Woman to open tomorrow!  By know you probably know what it is all about but just in case you don’t: Carly (Cameron Diaz) discovers her new boyfriend Mark (Game of Thones > Nikolaj Coster-Waldau) is a fraud – and worse – when she accidentally meets his wife, Kate (Leslie Mann). Carly suddenly finds herself comforting Kate, and their unlikely friendship solidifies when they realize that Mark is cheating on both of them with yet another “other woman,” Amber (Kate Upton). The three women join forces plotting an outrageous plan for revenge. OMG!

Who needs a bachelorette party in Vegas when you can have one in Paris, à la Kim K? Last night Kim K and entourage showed the rest of the world how to do a bachelorette party in style.

Kim was joined by sisters Khloé, Kendall and Kylie as well as celeb BFFs La La Anthony, Brittny Gastineau, Rachel Roy and celeb stylist Monica Rose for a dinner, and rumour has it 15 bottles of champers was sent their way before the evening continued (or once real party began, we suspect!)

Never one to shy from the camera, Kim – who was decked out in a $20 000 Balmain Fall 2012 collection dress for the night – posed for photos around sights such as the Louvre museum with her gal pals (minus her famous siblings) before heading out to a private bash at the Eiffel Tower. Sacré Bleu!

Next up on the wedding program? Tonight is the rehearsal dinner, and also the day Kim and Kanye grant their wedding guests a private tour of the Palace of Versailles before the big day tomorrow when they finally say their long awaited “I do’s”.

Their older sisters may still be in the spotlight, but these girls are snapping at their designer heels. Here comes the new-look A-list

The Headline Grabbers: Kendall & Kylie Jenner

Kendall & Kylie_GG_492032741 (Custom)

Kardashian_GG_120650041 (Custom)

Kendall and Kylie Jenner were only 10 and nine years old, respectively, when Keeping Up With The Kardashians changed the reality TV game in 2007. Back then, the focus may have been squarely on older half-sisters Kourtney, Kim and Khloé, but from where we’re sitting, not only are Kendall and Kylie keeping up, they’ve pretty much taken over.

Earlier this year, 18-year-old Kendall made her mark on the A/W fashion weeks by stomping the runways for Marc Jacobs in New York and Giles Deacon in London, before graduating to Chanel in Paris. While Kim is technically the first in the family to score the cover of Vogue, Kendall was the first sister to make a good impression on Vogue editor Anna Wintour, by sitting FROW alongside her and Sir Phillip Green for Topshop Unique’s A/W 2014 offering.

In fact, the only time she’s put a foot wrong lately was when introducing boy band 5 Seconds Of Summer at the Billboard Music Awards last week. After almost calling them One Direction, Kendall laughed off her flub, saying, “Guys, I’m the worst reader.” In fact, all her slip did was remind the world that she had a brief fling with 1D tween heart-throb Harry Styles earlier this year.

While Kendall makes waves, 16-year-old Kylie is not far behind. The slightly more rebellious of the two, Kylie has set herself apart from her model-pretty sister by embracing all things alternative (read: the 90s grunge revival of plum lipstick, plaid shirts, Doc Martens and Kool-Aid coloured hair). Her slightly-more-than-friends relationship with Jaden Smith has also kept everyone on their toes – particularly when they Instagram pics of their latest teen obsession: shopping for and making their own crystals.

The sisters collaborated on their own range of PacSun clothing, and another one of their collaborations will hit stores soon: as of June 4, Kendall and Kylie will also be published authors (with the help of co-writer Maya Sloane) of a dystopian tween thriller, Rebels: City Of Indra.

Forget the Kardashians – the Jenners are where it’s at.

The Future Supermodel: Lottie Moss

Lottie Moss_GG_469740523 (Custom)

If there’s anyone primed to step into iconic model Kate Moss’ shoes, it has to be her 16-year-old half-sister Lottie. Kate has taken Lottie under her wing – getting her signed to her modelling agency, Storm, introducing her to Topshop’s big boss, Sir Phillip Green, and helping Lottie land modelling gigs for Dazed & Confused and Teen Vogue. However, she may want to skip her big sister’s advice to leave school now and capitalise on her fame…

The double threat: Sofia Richie

GG_451869375 (Custom)

Sofia Richie (Custom)

Like her older sis, Nicole, 16-year-old Sofia has a keen eye for fashion, which she displays on Instagram and Tumblr. Nicole helped cultivate this passion by letting Sofia raid her wardrobe for Balenciaga and House Of Harlow 1960 shades. Fashion isn’t her only interest – as Lionel Richie’s youngest daughter, she also has a yen to follow in her father’s musical footsteps.

The budding fashionista: Natali Germanotta

Natali Germanotta (Custom)

Stepping out of Lady Gaga’s shadow might take some doing, but luckily for Gaga’s little sis, she has no plans to venture into pop stardom. A graduate of Parsons The New School For Design in New York, Natali plans a career in fashion. Although she did have a cameo in Gaga’s Telephone video in 2011, and she hasn’t ruled out working with her sister in the future… as her stylist.

The film star: Elle Fanning

Elle Fanning (Custom) Dakota Fanning_GG_492505525 (Custom)

Like her older sister, Dakota, at the tender age of 16 Elle Fanning is already a film veteran. She has also earned herself high-profile fans already, in the form of Oscar-winning director Sofia Coppola and Elle’s Maleficent co-star, Angelina Jolie. She is also set to start making waves in the fashion world – Elle has scored herself a spot alongside Lupita Nyong’o and Elizabeth Olsen (who is herself a younger sister on the rise) in Miu Miu’s Spring 2014 campaign. 

FASHION AND TECHNOLOGY JOIN FORCES WITH MAYBELLINE AND MECER

Mecer Maybelline Make-Over Collaboration, where technology truly meets style, introcduces Mecerlline.

Mecer and Maybelline have joined forces to launch their new “Mecerlline” campaign with the Mecer Smartlife tablet.

The colaboration was launched with an event at 10 on Bompas, featuring Mabale Maloi as MC and Aki Anastasiou as guest speaker. Guests were pampered with free manicures and make-up makeovers with Maybelline. And boy, did all the glamorous ladies look like real celebs! Aki even joined in the fun, painting his nails and getting some mascara – much to his daughter’s dismay!

In the build up to this launch, the overwhelming response to the ‘Mecerlline’ social media campaign only served as further proof of the prevalence and influence of female consumers in the tech and social media space. Be it work related, family-orientated or consumer influenced, women have fast become leading technology consumers.

“Women are naturally strong communicators, which is why social media has become such an important part of our lives. It helps us connect with friends and family, but also keeps us up to date with the latest beauty trends and news. This is why Maybelline has a very strategic focus on shareable, snackable content for women,” said Amanda Sevasti, Head of Social Media at NATIVE VML (Maybelline’s digital agency).

As Aki so appropriately explained, “technology these days are male centred and Maybelline and Mercer are changing that”.

TV’S GUILTIEST PLEASURES

$

0

Whether you’re an out and proud fan, or you prefer to keep your reality-TV and soapie-watching obsessions secret, there’s something to be said for the addictive and oddly soothing qualities of some of the best worst TV shows. With that, we bring you our homage to guilty pleasure TV

We need to talk about: #RichKids Of Beverly Hills

 NUP_158723_0970

At the beginning of the year, season one introduced us to real-life Beverly Hills BFFs Roxy Sowlaty, Dorothy Wang, Jonny Drubel, Morgan Stewart and her loyal boyfriend (now fiancé) Brendan Fitzpatrick. And oh, how the lols ensued. But if you missed out on E!’s latest addition to their reality-TV empire, fear not, because season one is currently re-running on the channel as we speak. In fact, if you flip over to E! right now, you’ll probably find yourself witnessing our favourite, Roxy, learn another valuable life lesson. Like who Ol’ Dirty Bastard was, or who the Wu-Tang Clan are, or, say, the importance of loofahs.

Besides Roxy’s life lessons, not much has changed for the 26-year-old interior decorator since the series began. “All that’s really changed is the number of Instagram followers I have. I swear the only thing that has changed is Instagram! Everything else is still totally normal,” she told Grazia in an exclusive chat.

According to Roxy, rich kids are just like us. “I think people just assume that we have no problems in our lives. We make so much money that nothing matters; we live in these perfect scenarios, and we have nothing to complain about. But just because our financial situation might be a little bit different compared to other people – or a lot different – doesn’t mean we don’t experience heartache and friendship problems and career issues. We have all the same problems! Just with a different backdrop – it’s a bit prettier maybe. Or we fight about things like who bought the same bag or same shoes… But just because they’re a little bit more expensive, it doesn’t mean we’re any different from any other girls.”

Signing up to become a part of the E! reality family was a no-brainer for Roxy, who could count on the expert advice of a certain Kardashian. “I grew up with Robert Kardashian from 3rd grade until we went to college together. He’s like a brother to me. Of course I asked him for advice! How could I not? He’s the one person who could tell me what it would really be like. His advice was just to do what I’m comfortable with and stay true to myself. That’s basically it.”

Even though she truly loves Twitter (if you hadn’t guessed, hashtag etiquette is a big part of this show), don’t expect Roxy to start following you back anytime soon. Unless, of course, she knows who you are, “I only follow people I’m friends with. I don’t follow people that I don’t know. I’m so ADD, so I can’t follow people I don’t know – I have no patience for it. I just like Tweeting with my friends,” Roxy explains.

#RichKids Of Beverly Hills airs on Wednesdays at 6.30pm on E!

Confession time!

Here’s what has Grazia HQ #obsessed

Denise Khoele, junior designer

I hate to admit it, and never thought I would, but I love Generations. The storylines are crap, the acting is crap, the entire thing is crap. But if I miss one episode, I have to watch the omnibus on Saturday. I can’t get enough of the horrible pronunciation, the terrible “action” scenes and the bad spelling in the subtitles. Besides the Kardashians and Giuliana And Bill, I absolutely love #RichKids Of Beverly Hills. I don’t know why. Maybe it’s the extremely cheesy – but catchy – hashtags; maybe it’s because I too would like a green Givenchy bag for my one-year anniversary bought by my billion-dollar boyfriend who has a jet at his disposal. Cheska: For me, it’s The Bachelor and The Bachelorette. Although I know it never works out, I think I enjoy it so much because I hope their love will last, and it is so entertaining!

Michelle: Mine is for sure The Bachelor. I find it really interesting to see who the Bachelor ends up choosing, and how emotional the girls always get. The crazy ones usually never get roses, but sometimes some crazies creep through. I usually watch it with my mom, and we end up laughing till we cry. I like Say Yes To The Dress because these women are absolutely horrible. Their families are usually total disasters, with mothers and aunts and sisters from hell. I wonder who this man is and why on Earth he has agreed to marry this vapid woman and her terrible family? I like when the women cry because they get “overwhelmed” and then try to wipe their tears, but their nails are too long, so they have to kind of slide the sides of their fingers under their eyes while looking at the ceiling and talking. At the top end of the spectrum is Project Runway US – the production value has improved over the years but the politics stay the same… the gay diva, the conceited bitch, the foreigner who wants to make it big in the US. And then I love some Jerseylicious and Chicagolicious… so much attitude, so much fun, and let’s not forget the actual catfights. It has to be Doomsday Preppers, because it’s hysterical, and I love seeing what those crazy redneck Americans get up to… and are sometimes dumb enough to believe. OUR GUIDE TO TAKING THE PERFECT SELFIE AT THE VODACOM DURBAN JULY

Hitting the Durban July tomorrow? Then you need to be able to take a decent selfie to boast all over social media. After all we want to see your amazing outfit, your make-up look – and don’t forget about your besties! If anyone knows how to take a decent selfie it’s the Grazia team. Here we share our top tips for taking envy-inducing, drool-worthy selfies.

nokiaselfie

1.

Make sure you have the right equipment. Our choice? The Nokia Lumia 1520. It captures our fave moments with style – it has a 20MP PureView camera and includes the latest innovations from Nokia, like OIS, enhanced sensor technology, oversampling and super zooming technology. Plus taking pics with the Nokia Lumia 1520 is super fast and easy because all the popular image modes (pro, smart, video etc) are integrated into the “picture taking” experience. Don’t have a Nokia Lumia 1520? Don’t stress out, we think all Nokias take super selfies.

2.

Know your angle. No, we’re not talking about fancy photographic skills; we’re talking about your best angle. If turning to the left, raising your chin slightly and balancing on tiptoes works for you – go for it!

3.

Pout or smile? No one likes a grumpy selfie! Show your best smile, girls. Happy selfies are the best ones.

4.

We know you’ll be wearing heels at the July, which is a good thing as they make you look taller and your selfies that much more regal.

5.

It’s all about lighting. Sunrise and sunset give the best light for snapping flattering pics. Make sure you avoid harsh light. Natural light on your face is the way to go.

6.

Get dressed with a bunch of girlfriends. Have fun taking snaps while you apply your make-up, choose between shoes and try on dresses. Just remember to show some restraint… No one really likes those inappropriate bum shots, unless you’re a star (turn to page 38 of this week’s issue to read our news report on Instagram’s double standards for selfies).

7.

And finally, have fun!

MUSIC + VIDEO = LOVE

Our art director, Karen Wentzel, shares her fave music videos of the moment, but this post comes with a warning: you won’t be able to get these songs out of your head.

GG_98840285[1]

(1) This is on repeat: Doprah’s new video for Stranger People. Somewhere between hyperrealism and tongue-in-cheek kitsch.

(2) Feel like a teenager again in this atmospheric song, We All Need Something by Bedroom. Bedroom is the solo work of 18-year-old Noah Kittinger from Nashville, Tennessee. It’s from his new album, Grow.

(3) This video made me feel the same way I did after watching 2001: A Space Odyssey: confused and slightly uncomfortable. It’s also reminded me of The Neverending Story and Cormac McCarthy’s The Road. It’s tragic and weird, and it makes no sense at all. But it’s awesome, and you can’t take your eyes off it… So have a look.

(4) Some days I wish I just learnt to play the guitar, even if it meant callousy fingertips… because maybe, just maybe… I’d be as cool as this chick, Elise Higgins from Fait, a band out of Perth.
