Unearthing any audition tape is like hitting gold. It’s like a slightly life-changing moment to see the person behind the character before they were the character.
We found Blake Lively’s audition tape for her role of Serena van der Woodsen in Gossip Girl. In the tape, Blake is acting out a scene from the pilot where she returns to Manhattan from boarding school and confronts former BFF Blaire Waldorf about her departure.
Fun Fact: Just yesterday, Gossip Girl casting director David Rapaport told Buzzfeed that he initially had Rumer Willis in mind to play the part of Serena, dubiously saying that at that time, “There were no Lena Dunhams or Zooey Deschanel – it was all about beauty and glamour, but being approachable too, and Blake was the ultimate It Girl.”
Pffft, whatever David. Based on the tape, Blake was also perfectly suited because, you know, #talent.
