Their older sisters may still be in the spotlight, but these girls are snapping at their designer heels. Here comes the new-look A-list
The Headline Grabbers: Kendall & Kylie Jenner
Kendall and Kylie Jenner were only 10 and nine years old, respectively, when Keeping Up With The Kardashians changed the reality TV game in 2007. Back then, the focus may have been squarely on older half-sisters Kourtney, Kim and Khloé, but from where we’re sitting, not only are Kendall and Kylie keeping up, they’ve pretty much taken over.
Earlier this year, 18-year-old Kendall made her mark on the A/W fashion weeks by stomping the runways for Marc Jacobs in New York and Giles Deacon in London, before graduating to Chanel in Paris. While Kim is technically the first in the family to score the cover of Vogue, Kendall was the first sister to make a good impression on Vogue editor Anna Wintour, by sitting FROW alongside her and Sir Phillip Green for Topshop Unique’s A/W 2014 offering.
In fact, the only time she’s put a foot wrong lately was when introducing boy band 5 Seconds Of Summer at the Billboard Music Awards last week. After almost calling them One Direction, Kendall laughed off her flub, saying, “Guys, I’m the worst reader.” In fact, all her slip did was remind the world that she had a brief fling with 1D tween heart-throb Harry Styles earlier this year.
While Kendall makes waves, 16-year-old Kylie is not far behind. The slightly more rebellious of the two, Kylie has set herself apart from her model-pretty sister by embracing all things alternative (read: the 90s grunge revival of plum lipstick, plaid shirts, Doc Martens and Kool-Aid coloured hair). Her slightly-more-than-friends relationship with Jaden Smith has also kept everyone on their toes – particularly when they Instagram pics of their latest teen obsession: shopping for and making their own crystals.
The sisters collaborated on their own range of PacSun clothing, and another one of their collaborations will hit stores soon: as of June 4, Kendall and Kylie will also be published authors (with the help of co-writer Maya Sloane) of a dystopian tween thriller, Rebels: City Of Indra.
Forget the Kardashians – the Jenners are where it’s at.
The Future Supermodel: Lottie Moss
If there’s anyone primed to step into iconic model Kate Moss’ shoes, it has to be her 16-year-old half-sister Lottie. Kate has taken Lottie under her wing – getting her signed to her modelling agency, Storm, introducing her to Topshop’s big boss, Sir Phillip Green, and helping Lottie land modelling gigs for Dazed & Confused and Teen Vogue. However, she may want to skip her big sister’s advice to leave school now and capitalise on her fame…
The double threat: Sofia Richie
Like her older sis, Nicole, 16-year-old Sofia has a keen eye for fashion, which she displays on Instagram and Tumblr. Nicole helped cultivate this passion by letting Sofia raid her wardrobe for Balenciaga and House Of Harlow 1960 shades. Fashion isn’t her only interest – as Lionel Richie’s youngest daughter, she also has a yen to follow in her father’s musical footsteps.
The budding fashionista: Natali Germanotta
Stepping out of Lady Gaga’s shadow might take some doing, but luckily for Gaga’s little sis, she has no plans to venture into pop stardom. A graduate of Parsons The New School For Design in New York, Natali plans a career in fashion. Although she did have a cameo in Gaga’s Telephone video in 2011, and she hasn’t ruled out working with her sister in the future… as her stylist.
The film star: Elle Fanning
Like her older sister, Dakota, at the tender age of 16 Elle Fanning is already a film veteran. She has also earned herself high-profile fans already, in the form of Oscar-winning director Sofia Coppola and Elle’s Maleficent co-star, Angelina Jolie. She is also set to start making waves in the fashion world – Elle has scored herself a spot alongside Lupita Nyong’o and Elizabeth Olsen (who is herself a younger sister on the rise) in Miu Miu’s Spring 2014 campaign.
