Money & Career: All good things continue to come your way through to mid-year, with Jupiter in your sign attracting money and opportunities aplenty. It may not seem that way from January to April, but the idea is to make your own luck rather than rely totally on Jupiter’s help. An eclipse in your finance zone in April brings an “A-ha!” moment, making you smart and creative with your money. In August a financial health check would be a superb idea. Your career looks solid, apart from some indecision around July. Should you stay or should you go? Test the waters before deciding.

Mind & Body: Jupiter gives you the power of positive thinking through  to mid-year, so what could possibly go wrong? Not much, as it happens,  though confusion over your image, selfworth or lovability may arise around July. This all gets sorted out from September onwards, when you realise it’s better to be loved for who you are than for what you have. Slow but sure is the way to go with health and fitness. From August, find exercise that you enjoy, and you’ll stick to it.

Love: A total love magnet, that’s you this year. You’re at your flirtatious and outrageous best in 2015, and your best months for love are July, August and September. It’s not a journey without bumps, but then, the course of true love isn’t supposed to run smoothly. Reality checks, romantic recriminations and the odd diva moment may arise, but, single or attached; you’re set to have a happy ending to a fairy-tale year of romance.

Adventure: This year is about getting serious when it comes to having fun. Pleasure for its own sake is like fast food, so whatever your ideal adventure is, make it nourish your future ambitions. Anything related to travel, spirituality, creativity, the media, publishing, children and romance are well-starred for you. And if you want toturn a pastime into a business, you have the blessing of the planets in 2015.

Money & Career: Balance in all things is your usual monetary mantra, and that’s set to continue in 2015. Mostly. Wild-card planet Uranus is rampaging through your finance zone, so keep an eye on desires for sudden splurges, watch out for banking errors, and get wise to cash-strapped friends and lovers bringing odd highs and lows to your finances. At work, multitasking continues to be a strength, but from August new career opportunities could be calling your name.

Mind & Body: Your occasionally pessimistic take on life has recently become more optimistic. This mindset continues, although more low-key,through to August, when the world is your glass of champagne right into 2016. You’re optimistic, and anything is possible. You won’t believe it at first, so an eclipse in your sign in September shows you what’s available and what you’re truly capable of. Physically, alternative therapies suit you best, but try not to blow your budget on things that are too expensive or too out-there, intriguing though they may seem.

Love: March is the month to watch when it comes to your closest relationships. A full moon suggests you’ve had enough of the status quo, and an eclipse in your relationship zone shows that someone’s finally getting the message – that could mean you. You have the romantic upper hand from August onwards, and in November things could get seriously good, so it may be time to take things to a whole new level.

Adventure: You don’t need to go far to find adventure this year… Home is where it’s at. Whether that’s moving home, buying a home, starting a family or just deciding to put down roots where you are, adventure is on your doorstep. Turning your home into a business also works for you this year, and moving abroad could be the answer from August onwards. The moon’s north node of destiny shifts into your sign in October, so life becomes less about making plans and more about having options.

Money & Career: The past two years have seen you tightening your belt and living the luxe life on less. You’ve nailed that skill, so hold that thought – because money saved, or not spent frivolously, is an investment in your next big step. June is your best month for asserting yourself at work. You won’t get an opportunity like this for another two years, so go for it. Want to get ahead this year? Get serious about learning new skills.

Mind & Body: You’re known for giving balanced advice and for your soft, harmonious energy, but you can be surprisingly tough on yourself. Those invasive “I’m not good enough” thoughts – which couldn’t be more wrong – are finally silenced in August. After a life-cleansing eclipse in your sign in April, optimistic is your middle name. And water is your new best friend for health and beauty this year, whether you’re drinking it or swimming in it.

Love: This year is filled with love, if you know where to look. Fortunately, your romance detectors are in fine form with your ruler, Venus, making waves in February, March and December that could turn your love life around, offering chances to meet someone special if single. Things could get seriously sensual in April too, with an eclipse that either brings you to your senses or lets you know that a long-time love is the real thing. Don’t expect stability in 2015 – erratic Uranus makes romance unpredictable but exciting.

Adventure: Your best adventure this year is an adventure of the mind. It’s a great time to study something you love, write that novel, start an amazing blog or set up your own website. This isn’t about the big picture, it’s about telling the local story – the things you know better than anyone else. Think: a guide to local yoga classes, legal advice centres or exotic places to dine out, or a YouTube spot on beauty tips and tricks. You don’t have to venture far to be adventurous in 2015.

HOROSCOPE 2015: SCORPIO

Money & Career: Money is the big issue for you now and for the next three years, as Saturn is putting the moves on your finances. Not that money will be in short supply, but you can’t afford to take risks with what you have. An investment account is your new best friend in 2015. Your career may seem to hit a lull until April, then it’s full-on until August, with the chance of some serious recognition for what you do best. Put yourself out there!

Mind & Body: If health has been up and down, with odd niggles and more than a few headaches, erratic planet Uranus is the culprit, making it hard to stick to a well-being regime, a gym membership or a healthy eating plan. Play that planet at its own game. Train randomly and eat well when you can to balance things out, because one bad meal won’t make you fat, just like one good meal won’t make you slim. Head massages and low-level laser treatments will soothe you, too. Keep up your self-care, as an eclipse in September may force the issue.

Love: Much as you’ve longed for love, Saturn in your sign may have stopped you in your tracks. Until now. You’re a better, wiser person, more open to love if single, and more realistic about it if already attached. Consider renewing your vows if coupled up, as February March and April are your top times for romance in 2015. Or vow to find The One if you’re searching, as a work romance could surface in July, or destiny (yes, really) could bring love to your social circle in November.

Adventure: Adventures cost money, so your personal adventure this year is a financial one: do whatever you can to fund your future fantasy. Saturn has taught you about waiting for the main prize rather than having instant gratification, so invest time (rather than cash) in focusing on what you really want to be doing three years from now. Start saving, and only spend big on what will help you achieve your dream

Money & Career: This year and next see a transformation in you that takes your money and career to a whole new level. You’re more focused on getting ahead than others imagine, because you often cover your cleverness with comedy. But it’s time to get serious and be seriously money-minded, too. You’re more diligent about the details than the big picture now, a career-advancing situation that could see your work prospects take off from September.

Mind & Body: Your sign traditionally loves the outdoors, and this is still the best place to keep your mind and body in perfect harmony this year. You’ve had a lot on your mind in recent months, but now you can put ideas into action, so they’re no longer just stuck in your head. The start of 2015 might feel a little slower or flatter than you’d like, but get used to this slow burn. Learning to pace yourself is what this health phase is all about.

Love: You’ve less time and interest in frivolity now, but it would be outrageous not to make use of the good love opportunities that arise throughout the year. Your best months for love are February and March, when a deeper commitment is possible if you’re attached, and the chance to find a keeper is very real if you’re solo. July to September also rock romantically with overseas or educational links being particularly strong if confusing, with communication mix-ups. September’s eclipse will sort things out.

Adventure: Your biggest adventure is within you. That’s not as mystical as it sounds – it’s an opportunity to be who you’re meant to be. Serious, funny, or seriously funny – it all works now. Saturn has arrived in your sign, showing you your limits but also how you can work within them and break through them. Learn about yourself, what you have to offer and what gaps there are in your life and knowledge. You’ll respect yourself more and earn more respect from others in the process

Whoa! This is major news!

Netflix is broadening its horizons and South Africa will be among one of the 200 countries that Netflix expands to in the next two years, a spokesperson for the subscription video on demand service told MyBroadband.

The confirmation comes after Netflix informed shareholders on 21 January 2015 that it would be able to complete its international expansion strategy earlier than expected.

Netflix explained that its strategy has been to expand as fast as it can while staying profitable on a global basis-can’t say that we’re complaining!

“Progress has been so strong that we now believe we can complete our global expansion over the next two years, while staying profitable, which is earlier than we expected,” Netflix CEO Reed Hastings and CFO David Wells told shareholders.

Asked to confirm that South Africa forms part of its global expansion plans, Netflix stated that it intends to be fully global by the end of 2016.

“We have not provided details of when we plan to go where, but you can be confident South Africa is among the countries we intend to serve sometime in the next two years,” Netflix said.

You know what this means don’t you? Finally being able to live stream and keep up-to-date with the latest TV shows, movies and more! Hoorah! We can’t wait!

AT THE BANNISTER HOTEL BASEMENT THURSDAY 29 JANUARY 8pm R80

Due to exuberant fan demand Best Alternative SAMA winner Nakhane Toure and SAMA nominee Bongeziwe Mabandla will finally be sharing a stage. Join the two Eastern Cape native musicians in the intimate setting of the recently renovated basement of The Bannister Hotel in Braamfontein.

Nakhane Toure was born in Alice and raised predominately in Port Elizabeth. His debut album, Brave Confusion owes as much to traditional African music as it does to recent Alternative music, ‘60s soul and ‘70s jazz. He may have taken the name Touré in homage to his idol Ali Farka Touré, but he is as likely to cite Morrissey, Nina Simone, Black Flag or Radiohead as influences. And he’ll as often pluck the strings of an acoustic guitar as play electric rock riffs or slinky, Prince-style funk.

Nakhane-A4

Bongeziwe Mabandla was born in Tsolo, a rural town in the Eastern Cape. He displayed all the signs of passion for art and music from an early age. After studying drama at AFDA Johannesburg, he dedicated his time to song writing and performing shows, developing his own unique unplugged style and earning recognition as a musician. Bongeziwe has created a matchless Afro-folk sound, over which his soulful voice delivers in both Xhosa and English. Influenced by artists like Tracy Chapman, Simphiwe Dana, Jabu Khanyile and Oliver Mtukudzi, his sound has a rhythmically grass-roots vibe, while fusing elements of traditional Xhosa music, Mbaqanga, Soul, Hip-hop and Dub.

RG1_2644

After dominating the airwaves with the 2 most played songs on radio in 2014 with Pluto (Remember You) and Rafael spending a combined 35 weeks as the most played songs on radio in the country, Beatenberg were honored last night to receive 5 nominations at the Metro Music Awards in Joburg.  No surprise there! The band was nominated for:

Song of The Year                                   – Rafael

Best Hit Single                                       – Rafael

Best African Pop Album                   - The Hanging Gardens of Beatenberg

Best Collaboration                              – Pluto (Remember You) with DJ Clock

Best Group

Big fans of DJ Clock’s work, Beatenberg jumped at the opportunity to collaborate with him and wrote and recorded the smash hit Pluto (Remember You) in just one day at his studio. Momentum for the song grew exponentially with it quickly breaking numerous records for radio play, including the most weeks as the most played song in Mediaguide’s radio tracking history.

Hot in the wake of the waves made my Pluto, Beatenberg followed up with their next single Rafael. Crafted around singer Matthew Field’s distinct voice, alluring harmonies and jazz-inspired hooks, mixed with band mates Ross Dorkin (bass) and Robin Brink’s (drums) solid continental inspired grooves, Rafael quickly caught up to Pluto, spending 16 weeks as the most played song on Mediaguide’s national charts, coming in 2nd only to Pluto.

Beatenberg are at once locally rooted and global in their appeal and are redefining and distilling a contemporary “South African Sound”. They make music that transcends barriers of race, age and culture, being at the forefront of a growing body of artists and musicians in South Africa who are redefining what it means to make art in South Africa.

Beatenberg’s album The Hanging Gardens of Beatenberg is out on Universal Music.

Here’s what Jenner had to say: “I feel like I grew up too fast a long time ago. Having older siblings, you grow up around adults, so you mature more quickly. I saw my sisters and parents working every day, so I was pretty much brought up to be a workaholic. But I just turned 19 a couple weeks ago, and I’m scared to be 20 — it’s the first step out of being a teenager. My sister Khloé always says to me and my younger sister, Kylie: You have your whole life to be an adult but only so long to be a kid. And we get it. In the right situations, I try to be as immature as I can sometimes — react to things as if I were 12. You can’t take things too seriously. I just laugh thinking about my dad being a teenager, partying. It’s the funniest thing. And it makes me think — what am I going to be like when I’m 65?”

  1. 49 years after making her modelling debut, Twiggy, 65, has been announced as the latest ambassador for L’Oreal Professional

She said: “I am absolutely delighted to become a L’Oréal Professionnel brand ambassador, I truly believe in the skill of the professional hairdresser and am so proud to represent the brand. “My hair has always been important to me and has been a big part of my image throughout the years. I hope to inspire women to be confident in their personal style and never be afraid of trying something new.”

 10. This selfie that Miss Israel, Doron Matalon, posted with Miss Lebanon, Saly Greige, (and Miss Slovenia and Miss Japan) sparked an international political outrage.

With Lebanese outlets demanded for Miss Lebanon to be dethroned, Miss Lebanon took to Facebook to explain the story saying,

“The truth behind the photo, since the first day of my arrival to participate to Miss Universe, I was very cautious to avoid being in any photo or communication with Miss Israel, who tried several times to take a photo with me. I was having a photo with Miss Japan, Miss Slovenia, suddenly Miss Israel jumped in and took a selfie, and uploaded it on her social media.”

Miss Israel responded, saying “It doesn’t surprise me, but it still makes me sad. Too bad you cannot put the hostility out of the game, only for three weeks of an experience of a lifetime that we can meet girls from around the world and also from the neighboring country.” Miss Israel was also quoted as saying, “I hope for change and I hope for peace between us, and even just for three weeks, just between me and her,” she told NBC News. “We need to remember that we represent the country and the people, not the government and not the political issues.”

Delightfully akward JLaw is not a fan of public speaking, as she made clear at this weekend’s Producer’s Guild Awards. Jennifer Lawrence presented an award to Jon Feltheimer, CEO of Lionsgate (the studio behind the Hunger Games franchise), at the awards.

She began her speech saying she wishes she would have taken a “Xanax” before. “I normally say no to this kind of thing on the account of my crippling anxiety and the unbreakable bond between woman and couch,” Lawrence said. “But I when I heard it was for Feltheimer, I had to say yes because I just assumed that I was contractually obligated but then when I found out that I wasn’t, I had already picked out this dress.”  BTW how gorgeous is her low cut PRADA dress?

I was born and raised in the capital city of South Africa, Pretoria, where I completed my matric year in 2011. I am currently a full time student in Johannesburg, studying towards my Bcom Law degree. Having worked with an initiative that aims to grow and empower the youth, I am particularly passionate about the empowerment of young people and women.

I feel equally as strong about visual art because it’s more of a spiritual experience. It allows me to paint and draw that which moves as I see it and hope it connects with those who view it. I am a vibrant, light hearted and whimsical young lady full of life and an eye for unique and special things. I love to work out and really enjoy the outdoors. I like to immerse myself with sport-related activities and spending quality time with my family and friends.
