Following the release of her UK Top 10 hit ‘Boom Clap’ and recent win at this year’s Teen Choice Awards, Charli XCX is very pleased to announce details of her highly-anticipated sophomore album Sucker….

LISTEN TO THE PRE-STREAM OF HER ALBUM HERE:

New single ‘Break The Rules’ sees Charli XCX – 22-year-old Charlotte Aitchison from Hertfordshire – return with a bad-ass floor-filler, oozing rebellion and attitude, which is set to ignite the airwaves in the coming months. Charli commented – The song is inspired by a lot of the things I was listening to whilst in Sweden at the end of last year. I spent about a month making a punk record and covering songs by Swedish punk bands like Snuffed By The Yakuza. This song was written when I came out of the other side of that punk phase and translated it into something more pop.”

Charli-XCX-new-pub-photo-2-Dan-Curwin

Over the last 18 months Charli’s rise to international pop stardom has been nothing short of meteoric. From releasing her dark-pop record True Romance in 2013 to a wealth of critical acclaim, Charli has toured the globe with the likes of Coldplay and Ellie Goulding, written and featured on one of 2013’s biggest hits ‘I Love It’ with Swedish duo Icona Pop, co-written and featured on the global, four million-selling hit ‘Fancy’ with Iggy Azalea, scored a UK and US Top 10 hit with ‘Boom Clap’ + more.

APPLETISER: LOVE AND TECHNOLOGY COMBINED

By combining new Augmented Reality Technology and beautiful collectable bottles Appletiser is helping everyone step up the romance in their lives-perfect timing with Valentine’s day around the corner!

APPLETISER

Appletiser has used Augmented Reality to make 3 unique, interactive 3D animated characters come to life with their new limited edition 275ml collectable pack. AR-technology allows you with your smartphone or tablet to see computer-generated objects and characters interact with your real-world environment in three dimensions.

With Appletiser’s new collectible pack you are able to watch 3 fun characters come to life right in front of your eyes.

Here’s how it works:

  • Appletiser has created three distinct characters for their 275ml collectable campaign. They are Johnny Appleseed (a quirky male character who hasn’t had much luck in the love department), Apple Blossom (a beautiful, sexy and sensational female character who is looking for love) and QP1D (he is not your average cupid, instead of a bow and arrow he uses a bazooka to make people fall in love, instead of wings he also has a hovercraft)
  • To experience Appletiser’s AR, simply download the Appletiser App (from the IOS App Store, Google’s Play Store or www.appletiser.co.za) on your phone or tablet and use it to scan the bottom label of your purchased 275ml Collectable Appletiser bottle

With international bloggers gracing magazine covers and starring in their very own reality TV shows, blogging is anything but dead. And here in SA, it’s just getting started. So if you’re keen to jump on the blogging bandwagon, here’s what you need to know.

Have something to say

tales of a mermaid

You know what doesn’t sell? Daily outfit updates. Even Kim Kardashian had to have a huge following before anyone cared what she decided to wear on a morning. So as fun as it can be to upload pics of your look for the heck of it, don’t expect this to turn into anything more than your virtual – and largely unread – diary. The more unique your passion, the bigger your audience, says Natalie Roos, the Cape Town-based creator of personal blog Tailsofamermaid.co.za. “I want to hear people’s stories. I want to hear their thoughts on feminism and the new restaurant down the street.

As long as people are harnessing what makes them truly unique, there will always be room for them,” she says. “Decide what you’re passionate about and pursue it with a plan,” adds Yetunde Dada, co-creator of supersuccessful party blog Drop-yourdrink. com. “It will automatically simplify your life in terms of the blog posts that you need to generate. It will also allow you to think out of the box in those categories because you’re not trying to blog about everything.” Before starting out, ask yourself, “If this belonged to someone else, would I find it interesting?” If not, it’s time to go back to the drawing board

Become tech savvy

emma

Even though we all might feel like we have social networking down, blogging requires a little bit more than clever use of filters and a stack of emojies. First of all, you’ll need to choose a platform. According to Misha Coetzee, creator of lifestyle site Brandslut. co.za, WordPress is best. “Choose a WordPress theme that’s designed for SEO [search engine optimisation], and take time to tag and write keywords that’ll help people find your content,” Misha advises. Linking your blog to your various social media accounts will help grow your audience, says Emma-Jane Harbour, the brains behind lifestyle blog Emmajanenation.co.za. “Think a lot about your blog name – you don’t want to regret it when you’re a super blogger! Once you’ve decided, check to see if the domain is available. It is? Register it quick! Do the same on Twitter, Instagram and Facebook.” If you’re taking your own photos you need to know what you’re doing, as Yetunde reveals, “When Drop Your Drink’s focus plan was created in 2011, I realised I had to become a better photographer. The highlight of this experience has been my trips to America to shoot music festivals.”

Grow a thick(er) skin

7df3a-teeteeiswithme_outfitpost_4

Make no mistake, you’re putting yourself out there. And while you might feel a lot of love, you’ll also have to deal with the haters and trolls. “I’ve realised that I have to deal with the fact that some people will roll their eyes at me and my life. I’m pretty good at ignoring them,” says Natalie. It’s important to realise that people are a lot braver behind their computers – keep it all in perspective. Thithi Nteta, creator of fashion and lifestyle site Teeteeiswithme. com, warns against becoming one of those trolls yourself: “Be careful about what you say on social media. I have seen many bloggers – new and established – tweet negative things, and I always look at those tweets and think it’s really unprofessional. Don’t be mean or bitchy. It’s just boring.”

Be dedicated

AnnaBelle-e1410805986489

If you’d like to see your blog grow from a cute side-project into a full-time career where companies pay to promote themselves on your platform, you’re going to have to make it your life. “When everyone else clocks off you have to put in a few more hours. I definitely think that’s what has helped me grow my blog and following pretty fast,” reveals Anna-Belle, creator of Shesaidsa.com. “Blogging is fun, but if you want to set yourself apart, you need to put in the work.” Once you can prove to potential investors and advertisers that your blog attracts thousands of readers each day, readers who are their perfect target market, that’s when the big bucks start rolling in. But it’s a long road – one that starts with at least three posts a day. “It’s difficult making it work for you financially,” says Natalie. “I’ve been at it for four years now, and it’s starting to pay a few of my bills. But if I was purely blogging for money, it wouldn’t be working for me.” And Misha adds, “I hope that brands and agencies in South Africa start to realise and value the clout of bloggers and their audiences and start to remunerate them accordingly. This is the way things are moving in the US, Europe and Australia, and I hope we catch up soon. Free stuff doesn’t pay the bills.

Have a little fun!

brandslut

Once you’ve got your idea and concepts for posts down, don’t forget to enjoy the process. “If it weren’t for Brandslut I wouldn’t have had the opportunity to run on the rooftop of the Carlton Centre, stay at the incredible Grootbos Reserve, partner with brands like iStore and GAP and meet more wonderful people than I can count,” says Misha. Fun fact: big brands are looking to bloggers to give their products exposure. So even if you’re not in a position yet to be demanding cash, lots of brands will happily let you trial-run their products in return for exposure. For Angie Durrant-Batis, creator of lifestyle blog Luckypony.co.za and mommy blog Tinypony.co.za, blogging is about staying true to you. “The moment you try too hard or worry too much about what people think, it becomes a task more than something you should be enjoying. That’s the cool thing about having a blog. People come of their own accord, and if they like what you’re putting out there, then it means that you get to keep doing what you love.”

IS IT A GOOD IDEA TO SPY ON YOUR NEW MAN?

$

HR_Grazia_IT_8_2013_209_STYLANDER

Companies like Justicia and Intertel can run a detailed background check on your new man for between R300 and R3 500. But is it really a good idea to spy on a boyfriend?

Finding a decent man is hard enough, but finding a good guy who’s 100 percent honest about his past may seem impossible. On the surface, he might tick all your boxes, but in reality he could already be married, have children or, even worse, have a criminal record. Take Minky*, 26, a Joburg-based sales consultant, for example. When she met Scott, 34, she thought he was the man of her dreams. After a year of dating, he told her his company was moving him to Dubai. He asked her if she’d relocate with him, so they could start a new life together in the Middle East. When she  agreed, he popped the question. “A week after he proposed, I got a call from him saying that he was in hospital after he crashed his motorbike on the highway,” Minky tells us. “I begged him to tell me which hospital he was in, so I could visit him. He said he didn’t want me to see him like that and asked me not to visit. The following week he said he’d been released but that he was in the Free State with family as his father had just passed away. That’s when I started getting suspicious.”

According to Minky, Scott had never introduced her to his friends or family. So she decided to Facebook-stalk a few of his mates and asked one where his family home in the Free State was so that she could send flowers to give her condolences. “When the friend replied, my blood ran cold. Not only was Scott’s father very much alive, but I learnt that he was never in an accident,” says Minky. Instead, Scott had been lying to her throughout their relationship. He was a married father of one, and his wife was pregnant with the couple’s second child. “He lied to me to get me to move to Dubai with him,” she tells us. “The position was semi-permanent, so he’d be in the UAE for one half of the year and live in SA the other half. He was setting me up to be his ‘second wife’, so neither me nor his wife would ever know about each other.” Sadly, Minky isn’t alone when it comes to being deceived by a partner. A recent study discovered that 33 percent of men lie about their past to their partners. Thirty-seven percent of women in the US recently admitted to secretly looking into their partner’s backgrounds, with one in ten admitting that they found something suspicious when they did.

foto_4273

In South Africa, there are various organisations that offer background checks to see if your partner is being completely honest with you. “When a person approaches us to run a background check on a new partner, they commonly ask us to check a variety of factors,” says Michael Stirling, a private investigator for Intertel (Intertel.co.za). “Firstly, are they who they claim to be? We look into the person’s true identity, their date and place of birth, age, nationality, residency status and address history.” Michael says they then look into whether or not that person is married, divorced (if so, what the circumstances were) and if they have children. If they do, they also check the custody arrangements.

“We also see if they have a history of criminal activity or inappropriate behaviour or actions that have given rise to criminal, civil, labour or family court proceedings,” Michael explains. “If need be, we could also investigate to see if they’re employed with a regular income, what their employment history is, if they are heavily indebted and if they’ve ever been insolvent or blacklisted.” For a comprehensive background check, Michael says it would cost you roughly R3 500, and you could get the results in less than a week. If you’re really suspicious of your partner and want to take things a step further, Alan Carey, director of Justicia Investigations (Justicia.co.za), says you can also conduct a polygraph test. “The polygraph examination can also detect whether the person has any addictions such as gambling, drugs or alcohol, which your normal criminal check won’t detect,” Alan tells us. “However, the polygraph requires the person being examined to give consent. The cost of a polygraph varies from R600 to R1 000 depending onthe circumstances.” Running checks could have saved Minky a lot of heartache, but experts say her situation is extreme. So how do you differentiate between being genuinely concerned about your new partner and just being insecure? Stephanie Dawson-Cosser, a relationship coach for Work & Family Matter Coaching and Consulting (Workfamilymatters.co.za) tells us,“If you feel adamant about doing a background check, start by looking at your relationship history as there would be signs. For example, if he has financial issues there would be debates around money, and his spending habits would also not be what’s considered normal. A criminal record is worth checking, but again, if honesty and transparency are a problem in other areas, there will be clues not adding up.”

cheating

Trust is a hard thing to earn in a relationship. So, if you feel the need to run a background check on your new man, we have to wonder if you should tell him about it first, else you too could run the risk of being deceitful. Stephanie says, “If you check him out and you find something, you’re probably going to end the relationship. And if you tell him and there is nothing to find, he will probably end the relationship because of your lack of trust. You should follow your own intuition, but be prepared to lose the relationship either way.”

So is it really worth spying on a newman? Stephanie says that if you’re planning on getting serious with him and are worried about his past, rather be upfront about your concerns and speak to him directly. If he’s not prepared to lay bare his background, and the idea ofdoing a background check still appeals to you, she suggests that you kick him to the kerb.

Is he lying About HisBackground?

Stephanie shares a few of the warning signs that indicate your new man isn’t being 100 percent honest with you:

✱He never wants to pay his way or pay for outings or entertainment, and when he does, he always uses cash (so transactions don’t show up on a bank statement).

✱He has unpaid bills, credit providers calling for payment or cards being rejected.

✱He often reneges on plans, promises or commitments.

✱He doesn’t pick up the landline at his professed place of work.

✱He’s not prepared to take you to his house.

✱He avoids seeing you or taking your calls at a particular time of day or night for no obvious reason.

✱He’s not prepared to introduce you to his family and friends.

GRAZIA FILM REVIEW: 50 SHADES OF GREY

$

Screen Shot 2015-02-12 at 4.28.59 PM

I was lucky enough to see this year’s most highly anticipated movie before the rest of the country and I’m happy to say the experience didn’t disappoint.

While many critics have slammed 50 Shades of Grey for being a bit on the dull side, I found there was more than enough excitement in the film to keep most entertained.

The sex scenes made up roughly 15 minutes of the two hour feature film, and they were hot! The sexual tension between Christian Grey (Jamie Dornan) and Anastasia Steele (Dakota Johnson) at the beginning of the movie is riveting. ‘Just kiss her already’, I kept urging. And when they did get it on, sparks flew.

However, if you’re expecting something similar to soft porn, you may be a little disappointed. While you do get a good glimpse of Dakota’s whole body throughout the movie (yes that includes pubes and boobs), Jamie kept his jeans on a lot more than we would have liked. While the actual sex screen time was sizzling, it was constantly cut short, leaving much to be desired. And, there wasn’t nearly enough of it considering that’s basically what the trilogy is about.

While I do believe director Sam Taylor-Johnson managed to create a film that was better than the badly written books – most of the worst dialogue was cut – it’s hard not to wonder if she played it too safe. The appeal of 50 Shades is the steamy, raw lovemaking between Anastasia and Christian, however the movie seemed to focus more on their relationship and Christian’s inability to let Anastasia in emotionally.

The exploration of bondage, domination, sadism and masochism (BDSM) was interesting and also highlighted an important issue a lot of women face: doing something you don’t want to do just to make your partner happy.

The entire film seemed to focus on Anastasia’s struggle to regain her power, and draw firm boundaries with her ironically being the dominant one when the flick ends abruptly.

In a nutshell, if you liked the books or didn’t even bother reading them you will be entertained. The movie has its moments and is riveting in parts. It’s obviously not Oscar-winning stuff but it’s two hours of your life you won’t necessarily mind giving up…

Last night, Kanye West debuted his collection for Adidas x Yeezy event in NYC.

adidas Originals x Kanye West YEEZY SEASON 1 - Runway

Kim (obviously!) was dressed in HTT (head-to-toe) in an outfit from the collection, which she had no qualms in showing off.

Kim took to Instagram to show off a snap of her and the adorable tot happily laughing and playing before the show started.

With a guest-list made of of A-list stars such as Beyonce and Jay Z, Rihanna, P Diddy, Justin Bieber, Anna Wintour, Gigi Hadid (and more!) as well as the entire Kardashian klan stood to give the show a standing ovation, there was one star of the show who didn’t seem very impressed: Kanye’s very own little one, North.

However, it wasn’t long after the show had started that Nori started crying and screaming and Anna Wintour, sitting right next to Mrs. West, clearly was not seem impressed at the tantrum. There was a point in the show where Kim momentarily had to leave the FROW to tend to her little one, all the while Beyonce looked on gracefully.

Although the entire Kardashian Klan was sitting front row, there was one member of the famous family that was clearly missing-Kylie. Her reason for not sitting down to watch the show? Because she was making her catwalk debut in the show.

Something bigger than the A-list guest list? The fact that Beyonce sat NEXT to Kim in the show, with the exception of the recebt 2015 Grammys photo of them together, the two haven;t been snapped together since the 2012 Grammys.

Although there has been a lot (and we mean A LOT!) of debate around Riri’s Grammy’s dress, one person who gave her stamp of approval was Miss Blue Ivy! Captured in this adorable pic with Blue, Rihanna captposted this pic and captioned it by saying that “Blue told me she likes my fluffy dress lol! She was also fully aware that she was in Dior, and not afraid to let ya know ok”. Now you know, ok!

In a modern world driven by social media sland, the best way to describe the SNL 40th anniversary last night would be #AWESOME

Saturday Night Live (SNL) celebrated its 4oth anniversary on 15 Frebruary, and every celeb you could possibly think of, made an appearance-Taylor Swift, Jimmy Fallon, Justin Timberlake, Miley Cyrus, Will Ferrell, Tina Fey, Amy Poehler, Emma Stone, Kanye West and even Paul McCartney to name a select few.

Here are the highlights from the show.

The show kicked off with Jimmy Fallon and JT serenading the crowd after which the show really got started with celebrity Jeapordy hosted by the one and only Will Ferrell.

Next up? Well Betty White is officially one of the luckiest woman in the world because she and Bradley Cooper  totally made out. Also, Bradley Cooper had bleach blonde hair and still looked gorgeous as ever!

Besties Tina Fey and Amy Poheler reunited at the news desk with the help of their perfect assistants, Emma Stone and Melissa McCartney (hashtag PERFECTION)

Even Queen Bey made an appearance, well sort of. Beyonce might have had prior arrangements (rude) so instead, Maya Rudolph donned her most voluminous weave and bodysuit and did the pop diva justice.

Earlier this month, Bruce Jenner was involved in a car accident that left one person dead and seven injured on the Pacific Coast Highway in Malibu, California. Jenner originally claimed that he was being chased by several paparazzi cars. An on-the-spot alcohol test showed Bruce was sober.

It was originally reported that Bruce hit the Lexus in front of him which then in turn hit a Prius, which propelled the Prius into oncoming traffic where it collided with a Hummer, causing the tragic accident.

However, new video footage reported to be in custody of th police from an MTA bus travelling behind the Hummer is said to have captured the accident with mounted cameras.

This new footage could mean serious trouble for the reality star who is currently in the middle of an alleged sex transition. The footage shows the former Olympian gold medallist smash his Cadillac Escalade into both the white Lexus as well as the Toyota Prius with the white Lexus being propelled into oncoming traffic while Bruce collides with the Toyota Prius simultaneously; instead of a car pile-up like originally reported.

If this is correct, this then indicates that Jenner was not keeping a safe following distance, and implicates him with possible manslaughter prosecution charges.
