Happy birthday Queen Delevingne!

Our favourite Brit model/actress/beatboxer/drummer turns 23 today. Besides being one of the most in-demand models of the moment, Cara is making a name for herself in the film industry too. Having landed the lead role in John Green’s Paper Towns, Cara also scooped the coveted role of Enchantress in the upcoming Suicide Squad alongside Jared Leto and Margot Robbie.

We know that supermodels Kendall and Gigi are BFFs. We know that the two are also dating Jonas brothers Nick and Joe. What we didn’t know is that Kendall and Gigi are related – loosely. Kind of. Via divorced marriages. So, not really. Not at all, actually. But it’s still a pretty neat story.

Check it out (it gets a little complicated  so try to keep up): Gigi’s mother is married to current husband, David Foster (which makes him Gigi’s stepdad). David Foster’s ex-wife is Linda Thompson. Linda Thompson is ex-wife to Bruce Jenner (now Caitlyn Jenner). Caitlyn Jenner is Kendall’s dad (even though she’s gone through the transition she still identifies as her kids’ dad).

So, okay, they’re not really sisters in any way. Like, at all. But, it’s okay ‘cause they’ve each got enough of those anyway.

2. LIMIT YOURSELF

For all those people who like to post about 5–10 consecutive pics in a row. Stop. Not just for your followers’ sanity, but because it decreases your chances of getting likes. Aim for 1–2 photos a day, preferably with a time lap in-between.

3. GO OUTSIDE

The queen of selfies – and social media – Kim Kardashian, is always talking about good lighting. And she’s right, good lighting is the difference between flattering and unflattering pics. The best lighting? Good ol’ vitamin D-producing sunlight. So go outside and get snapping.

4.  THE ONE HASHTAG YOU SHOULD NEVER USE:

#Drunk. This hashtag will decrease your likes by 40 percent.

5. THE ONE HASHTAG YOU CAN ALWAYS USE

#NoFilter. Images with this hashtag tend to get 10 percent more double taps, and it really doesn’t matter if you’re lying.

6. DON’T OVERUSE HASHTAGS

Please, please, stop hashtagging everything in your pic like #boy #girl #beach #pink #blue #ocean #sand #sea #love #couple #romance #holiday #baecation. Firstly, it’s annoying and no one cares and you’re starting to become a spam bot, and secondly, the most amount of hashtags you should use is 7. If you’re hashtagging for likes, visit tagforlike.com to find out what the most popular hashtags in different categories are.

7. USE OTHER FILTERS

While the Instagram filters are great, many bloggers and celebs use other photo editing and filter apps to make their pics look more professional before posting to Instagram and actually don’t even use the custom filters provided by Instagram.

8. KNOW YOUR ANGLES

Pics shot from a low angle tends to get you more hearts on your pic rather than a straight-on pic, especially if it’s a bikini shot. The angle can make you appear taller and thinner – if that’s what you want.

9. THE FILTER WITH THE MOST LIKES

Instagram’s custom soft black-and-white filter, Willow, gets more double taps than any of the other filters. Step aside, Lo-Fi.

10. IMAGES THAT ARE PREDOMINANTLY BLUE

You know this though, because we’ve already schooled you about it. But, in case you forgot, pics that feature the colour blue receive 24 percent more likes. So, keep snapping up a storm by the poolside as well as those ocean pics.

Turns out, one of the most famous lines from our favourite chick flick, Mean Girls, is wrong.

Regina George is trying to lose weight and cutting out carbs, and asks Cady (Lindsey Lohan’s character) if butter is a carb. Cady famously replies with a condescending “yes”, but it turns out, butter is in actual fact not a carb. Okay, well it is, but it’s a very low carb. Low as in it contains only  0,1g of carbs.

Butter is used in low carb diets like banting. So technically, Regina could have – and should have – had that butter instead of the cheese fries she decided to get instead.

As if that wasn’t classic enough, Klum spoke with Access Hollywood addressing his rude and obnoxious comment: “Personally, I have no idea what I have to do with the election,” she said while speaking of some of the candidates. “But really, the whole entire situation about women is not really funny, you know to put a number on a woman, especially women.”

She continued, “We juggle so many things and I feel that, you know, women who support their families, who have children, who make their lunches, drive them all over the place, work at the same time, I mean, we do so many things, so in my book, every woman is a ten.”

That last comment, “every women is a ten” has us giving Heidi a standing ovation.

Last night while accepting the award for Best Hip-Hop Video at the MTV Video Music Awards, Nicki Minaj challenged the show’s host Miley Cyrus about the comments she made in an interview with The New York Times last week.

Miley was asked about Minaj’s Twitter spat with Taylor Swift in July over this year’s crop of nominees. “What I read sounded very Nicki Minaj, which, if you know Nicki Minaj is not too kind.”

Miley was quoted as saying; “It’s not very polite. I think there’s a way you speak to people with openness and love. You don’t have to start this pop star against pop star war… I know you can make it seem like, Oh I just don’t understand because I’m a white pop star. I know the statistics. I know what’s going on in the world. But to be honest, I don’t think MTV did that on purpose.”

Nicki asked her, “What’s good?” Miley responded to Nicki by blaming the media for twisting her words, we’re not sure if the whole situation was choreographed but it certainly was entertaining TV. Let’s be honest Nicki Minaj is a total badass and we would not want to be up against her!  One of our highlights of the entire situation was Rebel Wilson, how funny is she in the back ground as Nicki’s hype woman?!

The 2015 MTV Video Music Awards will be aired locally tonight, Monday August 31, 2015 from 20:00 CAT (simulcast on MTV and MTV Base). 

The 2015 MTV Video Music Awards took place last night, August 30, at the Microsoft Theater in Los Angeles.  There were awards for 16 categories, and Kanye West was presented with the Vanguard Award.

Taylor Swift leads the nominations for the 2015 MTV Video Music Awards, boasting 10, mostly for her “Bad Blood” video, which is nominated for Video of the Year. Ed Sheeran boasts the second most nominations with six. He is also nominated for Video of the Year for “Thinking Out Loud.” Kendrick Lamar also boasts four nominations.

The record for most awards won by an artist over their career is held by Madonna, who holds 20 trophies.

Justin Bieber looks for romantic clarity on his breezy new single, “What Do You Mean?,” the first sample off his upcoming fourth LP, out November 13th via RBMG/Def Jam Recordings. His last proper album, 2012′s Believe, included its fair share of dance tracks, from the international pseudo-rave “All Around The World” to the Zedd-produced EDM banger “Beauty and a Beat” to the overly busy jam “Take You.” None of the songs on the album contained the emotional nakedness of “Where Are U Now,” Bieber’s collaboration with Skrillex and Diplo for their Jack U project, quietly released last winter before slowly growing into a radio smash. “Where Are U Now” boasted nifty production gymnastics (as we recently found out, that flute noise is actually a pitched vocal!) and a memorably knotty drop, but the song’s highlight is clearly Bieber’s vulnerability, the way his question “Where are you now that I need you?” is actually a plea and the statement “When you broke down I didn’t leave you” is a desperate cry for understanding. Bieber had danceable songs prior to “Where Are U Now,” but they had never sounded nearly as personal.

“What Do You Mean?,” which follows Bieber’s surprise hit and is positioned as his huge comeback bid, synthesizes the positive components of “Where Are U Now” and presents something warmer and friendlier, but no less nuanced or impressive. Opening with dramatic piano keys and ticking woodblock percussion, the single guides the listener through a safari of rhythms and synth hooks but remains unafraid to pivot back to the minimalism of the starting position. The electronic iciness of the “Where Are U Now” hook has been swapped out with a lush groove, while the arrangement smartly avoids the maximalism of his past productions but still has a high-enough BPM to inspire movement. “What Do You Mean?” is going to see a lot of club play, but its detailed array of sounds also encourages headphone listening.

And Bieber — an immensely talented pop artist who spent years embroiled in controversy and away from the radio — has seemingly unlocked the secret to sustained success as an adult star. Like its predecessor, “What Do You Mean?” allows Bieber to be universal and intimate simultaneously: his words are directed at a single person, but he’s prodding the world at large. From his earliest YouTube days, Bieber has demonstrated a distinct vocal talent, and has spent his career looking through different styles in which to express that skill, from teen-pop to EDM to acoustic R&B. “What Do You Mean?” swirls those sounds together, and Bieber has never sounded steadier in his delivery. This is the second straight single for Bieber in which the title is a four-word question, but on “What Do You Mean?,” Bieber at long last sounds as if he’s found the answer.

Fresh off his Oscar for Best Actor for playing Stephen Hawking in Theory of Everything, Eddie Redmayne is taking on another real-life character who helped change the world in The Danish Girl. The film looks at the remarkable love story inspired by the lives of artists Lili Elbe and Gerda Wegener (played by Alicia Vikander). Lili and Gerda’s marriage and work evolve as they navigate Lili’s groundbreaking journey as a transgender pioneer.Set in the 1920s, it could not be more relevant than it is right now.

One of our favourite anti-fashionistas is back on screen thanks to the Sony channel! America Ferrera stars as go-getter Betty Suarez, a true beauty in the skin-deep world of high fashion. Two very different cultures collide in this series about believing in yourself and being true to who you are regardless of the odds.

Ugly Betty was a runaway hit with fans and critics from its first season winning two Emmy Awards (for Best Television Series Musical or Comedy and Best Performance by an Actress in a Television Series Musical or Comedy). It went on to be nominated for more than 160 major awards, winning 60 of them.

America Ferrera (The Sisterhood of the Traveling Pants) stars as Betty, a smart assistant at a women’s magazine who is clueless when it comes to fashion. While her skinny colleagues parade around in haute couture and stiletto heels, Betty shows up for work in her mismatched outfits, including socks with heels, complete with thick glasses and awkward braces.

About her role as Betty, America says,  “From the very beginning the show was aired, I received a lot of letters from people who relate to Betty – especially teenagers. They tell me that they’re really glad that Betty is an image on television. I also get a lot of letters from mothers of teenage girls saying, ‘I’m so glad that this strong, smart, intelligent female figure is on television for my daughter to watch.’ I think girls really enjoy watching something to mix up the image of what a girl should look like. Not that everyone should be like Betty or everyone shouldn’t be like Betty, but she widens the landscape of images for young women on television.”

Asked why she feels the show has been so successful Ferrera replies: “Anyone who’s ever felt like an outsider can see themselves in her (Betty) and feel represented. And who hasn’t, at some point in their life, felt like they didn’t belong?”

Betty certainly is the wisest!

“There is nobody here who cares about filling the inside; they only care about fixing the outside! You know what, this concealer here; this doesn’t change the fact that she doesn’t have a house! December Streets
Originating from the capital of South Africa, Pretoria December Streets is an indie rock band formed in late 2009. Living in the midst of an ever evolving and growing South Africa, the band draws inspiration largely from life around them. December Streets consisting of Tristan Coetzee, Nico van Loggerenberg Gideon Meyer, Waldo Boshof and Corneil Classen describe their music as foot stomping, skirt lifting, shoulder popping musical bliss.
