Known for her love of cooking, unbelievable style and fashionable friends, Top Billing TV Presenter and celebrated foodie, Lorna Maseko brought the kitchen down this past weekend when she hosted her ever popular ‘Cooking with Lorna and Friends” at the Cradle of Humankind in Maropeng. It was certainly an Easter family affair as guests came together to share in the occasion with delectable holiday treats and sensational entertainment.

This time around, and in celebration of the holidays which is fast approaching, the whole family was invited to attend, including children. A picnic was the order of the day and kids even had their own ‘Build a burger’ station where they were able to create their own foodie masterpieces.  Let’s not forget the exceptional wine-tasting experience as well as a variety of food stalls offering different cuisines and dishes. The adventure didn’t stop there as everyone was invited to take a special tour through the Maropeng Caves.

The floor was open to guests who wanted to participate in Lorna’s famous cooking experience. They became celebrity chefs in their own right as they got to replicate one of Lorna’s delectable recipes – stuffed chicken roulade with a honey lime sauce, pomegranates and shimeji mushrooms. The event ended with a cherry on top as guests got to enjoy comedian Toll A$$ Mo and Metro FM DJ Lerato Kganyago take the stage.

I loved that the whole family got involved this time. Adults and children alike had the best time and that makes my heart so happy. It’s official – Boity and Cassper have split. In an interview with True Love magazine, the cover star shares the deets on the break-up that happened back in December  2015 already.

According to the mag, Cassper did not cheat and that their break-up was amicable and explains that the real reason behind their split was due to time management and that they were essentially ‘too busy for eachother.’

“We broke up in December and I cried up about it, I got angry about it, I tried to convince myself that its okay then eventually you are just like life actually continues,” said Boity. “Not once did I ever feel like he has cheated on me or giving someone else attention. There was never a time we fought about any girl, he was absolutely respectful towards me in terms of his female fans. Funny enough the female fans just showed me so much respect as well.”

Tap dancing is making a comeback, guys. It’s no longer limited to an extra class you take at your ballet/dance class when you’re nine.

The comeback of tap is so major that it even has Beyoncé’s stamp of approval on it. The Formation songstress shared a video of a Washington, DC group Syncopated Ladies, who nailed the original Formation choreography of Bey’s video but with some serious tap in it.

Maud Arnold who choreographed and produced the video along with her sister, explains that her reason for combining this song with tap dance was to “show how powerful black women in tap dance are.”

In speaking to the Huffington Post, Maud further explains: “Just how black culture influences the world… my sister and I, as black women, have been able to influence the world of dance.

Although male models don’t get as much attention, or rise to super status as easily as women do, this model is well known and in a league of his own. Tyson Beckford has been around for quite a while, and seems to be getting hotter and hotter.

The 45-year-old (yes, 45 years old) shot to fame after fronting the Ralph Lauren Polo men’s campaign in 1995, and since then has been ruling the runway of high fashion brands and acting in movies, television shows and music videos (remember his cameo in Britney Spears’ 2004 music video, Toxic?).

His Instagram is not a disappointment either, showing runway shots, selfies, campaigns photos and lots of pics of his… abs. However, what stands out for us, besides his ripped body, is his hypnotising eyes and killer smile.

This weekend saw the crowning of our new Miss South Africa, Ntandoyenkosi Kunene, at a glitzy ceremony at Carnival City. Elizabeth Malopo was crowned first princess and Tayla Skye Robinson is SA’s second princess.

As the new Miss SA, Ntando walks away with more than R2 million in prizes, including a Nissan Juke, a seven-night international holiday and cash.

In her acceptance speech, Ntando said that this was a dream come true: “As a little girl growing up in the township – modelling around the house and practising my speech in front of the mirror – I had always hoped, prayed and believed that one day my name would be called as the new Miss South Africa.

“Words cannot begin to describe the joy in my heart. I am delighted because I have the opportunity to give back to my nation, to inspire little girls like myself to have big dreams, to be a beacon of hope to the hopeless and to encourage young women to work tirelessly towards their goals, dreams and ambitions.

Just when we thought we’d moved past the #thighgapchallenge, women on Instagram have started measuring the size of their waists against a vertical piece of A4 paper.

The “trend”, which started in China, requires a woman to stand behind a piece of A4 paper, which is 21cm wide, in the hopes of showing off that their waist disappears behind it. Chinese state newspaper People’s Daily described it as a “fitness challenge”.

Using the #A4waist, millions of images were posted to Weibo, a Chinese social media site, which then went viral on Instagram and saw girls in their teens and early 20s take up the challenge.

Not long after the hashtag and challenge started trending, other hashtags arose: the counter trend #stopA4waist and #immorethanmywaist, which saw users uploading images of themselves holding their university degrees and papers showing messages of discouragement against the trend.

Jillian is a 28-year-old model and fashion editor with muscular dystrophy, who’s also starred in campaigns like Diesel and Nordstro and is signed to IMG model #GirlPower.

In the new campaign, Jill is seen modelling selected tees and hoodies and donning bags embellished with lyrics from Bey’s latest songs.

Jillian took to Instagram to reveal the news, captioning the image (what image? And image from the campaign): “OK ladies now let’s get in Formation.”

If ever there was an irony that existed, it has to be this: Kim, Kourtney and Khloé are being sued over their very own make-up line. Say what? Yup, according to TMZ, the trio are being sued by Hillair Capital Management, which invested in the products, for not following through on their agreement to promote the Kardashian Beauty make-up line on social media.

Hillair Capital Management allegedly spent $10 million (R152 535 50) to maintain the brand after the original investing company, Boldface, started failing. According to the company, had the sisters promoted the brand and its products on their social media platforms, the company would have made an estimated $180 million (R2 744 496 000).

Considering the Kardashians are always on social media and big on their endorsement deals, this whole situation is baffling. What’s more, according to gossip site Jezebel, there are several other Kardashian-endorsed companies currently facing lawsuits too.

Instagram announced earlier in the month that they would be rolling out a new feature – similar to Facebook – where it groups the images it thinks you want to see over and above (literally) the usual chronological order of images you usually see in your feed. So, in essence, like Facebook, you will be seeing the images that highlight the posts with the most interaction – aka popularity.

The new IG order is “based on the likelihood you’ll be interested in the content, your relationship with the person posting and the timeliness of the post,” according to a blog post from March 15 2016.

So what exactly does this mean for your profile? Essentially you’ll need to be more active and you’ll need an active network of followers who are invested in your pics and content.  Just like FB, you’ll be seeing more branded content as brands are now going to be able to pay Instagram for top-of-screen placement, which means you and your friends’ posts will be pushed down below the popular posts.

While there’s no escaping the update, you can make sure to get the latest pic updates from your fave pages (like us, obvs!) by clicking “turn on notifications” (simply click on the three dots in the top right corner of a pic and you’ll be the first to know when a new pic has been posted).

If you haven’t seen or experienced this yet, that’s because IG is currently testing the new update out in small groups, and it will be weeks or even months before official changes are made. Nylon mag made a good point about the change: “You’re going to have to play Instagram at its own game and up your branding game of your profile. Farewell to spontaneous posts and hello to planned and curated feeds.”

If you really want to fight the new update, there is a Change.org petition you can sign, which is urging the ‘gram to keep the chronological order it currently has. If it ain’t broke, don’t fix it, eh?

Yep, a pic of 13-year-old Clyff – who is now 24 and living in Brooklyn, New York – was reportedly posted on Reddit by his girlfriend Shannon Welch, and the resemblance is uncanny – the guy even has a beauty spot in the same darn place!

“I was embarrassed by how feminine I looked then,” he shared. “I vividly remember going to a restaurant with my mother and sister and having the waiter approach the table and say, ‘How are we doing ladies?’ I was often mistaken for a girl between the ages of 10 and 13. At the time it bothered me, but now it’s something I enjoy reminiscing about,” Clyff told Glamour.

We’ve seen it in the movies, heck, we even do it ourselves: we kiss with our eyes closed. It’s one of those natural reactions.

But why do we close our eyes when we kiss? Well, there is a scientific reason: apparently we shut our eyes when we smooch because our brains are unable to process visual data at the same time as the physical sensations coming from our lips and tongues.

So, we are able to multitask in pretty much everything we do on a daily basis, except this? Weird.

When we dug a little deeper, we discovered that the research – conducted by Polly Dalton and Sandra Murphy, cognitive psychologists at Royal Holloway, University of London, for the Journal of Experimental Psychology: Human Perception and Performance – actually didn’t include kissing at all!

In actual fact, the study focused on participants carrying out a visual task while also having to respond to small vibrations being applied to their hands. As the study continued and the tasks got more intense, the psychologists found that the “touch sense” deteriorated.

“If we are focusing strongly on a visual task, this will reduce our awareness of stimuli in other senses,” Polly said in an interview to The Sunday Times.

Turns out that sometimes people would actually rather just focus on the physical instead of the visual, like when we’re kissing or having sex.

“These results could explain why we close our eyes when we want to focus attention on another sense,” she concluded. “Shutting out the visual input leaves more mental resources to focus on other aspects of our experience.”

Local sisters Alyssa Kirby Cole and Kyra Afton Sophia Cole are the It Girls we’re currently stalking – and not only for their beautiful hair and striking faces. The two models have been heading campaigns for big brands such as Mr Price (Kyra’s gig) and handbag and luggage brand Kipling (Alyssa’s gig). A new princess has been crowned, and though we revel in her joy, we tend to not give a moment’s thought of what this means to her predecessor. After more than 2 years of competing in the pageant realm, and holding its reigns, surely exiting it is not as simple as a handing of a crown and a loss of a sash.

We spoke to Miss South Africa 2015 Liesl Laurie about life after her reign, and what her future holds.

2015; you were crowned Miss SA, was one of the 10 finalists for Miss Worlds, and became the Continental Queen of Africa. This was a big year for you. So how do you plan to make 2016 even greater?

I think I am just going to build on that legacy of doing great things and for me, what I did by entering Miss South Africa was to shed some light onto my community, so I want to continue doing that. I firstly want to help in my community, because I feel like when you are Miss South Africa, you are Miss South Africa, not Miss Eldorado Park. So it was very difficult for me to focus only on my community during my reign, because I had to be the ambassador for the whole country. This year, one of my main focuses will be focussing on my community, growing there and just building on myself.

Is it true that you are heading into radio?

So the idea is to go into radio. I have done quite a few of my demos, I have sent them out and have been sitting in on quite a few shows, at a few radio stations. Can’t say the names, I wish I could, but don’t want to jinx anything.

How did it feel handing over your crown to Ntandoyenkosi?

Firstly I would like to say that I took a bet with my best friend and my sister to say that Ntando would win. Only because she reminded me of myself, and not in a bigger sense, but there were moments where I’d look at her and listen to her and I’d giggle because I’m like, “you remind me of me!” [She laughs] So I have always had a soft spot for her. It felt like passing on the baton, and passing it to her was a good pass.

What are your pageant duties this year, and are you going to be pageanted-out by next year?

For Miss World Africa I will be travelling a bit in Africa, shedding some light on organisations in Africa. So as much as I would like to focus on my stuff, already I have another responsibility to help other countries in my continent. Oh my gosh! I don’t think I have ever said that out loud.

Since you have been through it all, what do you expect from the current Miss SA and what advice or tips would you like to give her?

I think one of the main advices I give to her is to always be kind and to spread love wherever you go. Mainly because I grew up during a very difficult time in my family, and getting that kindness from someone can change your life, change your day and change your outcome.

Is it true that you cannot date whilst holding the title of Miss SA? Why is it so and what are your thoughts on this rule?

It’s an unspoken rule, but it’s mainly because of split focus. If you are in a relationship whilst entering for Miss SA, a long term relationship, they don’t want you to just say, “Ok, bye!” What you need to understand [as a contestant] is that then Miss SA is your first priority, not your partner, or anything like that. That is why it is better to not be in a relationship. I wasn’t in a relationship a few months leading to Miss SA, and so I decided not to be in one for all of the time.

(UPDATE: so turns out the guy Liesl has been having coffee with is none other than rapper and TV personality Proverb! #eek)

Do you have a special someone in your life currently?

[Laughs] I don’t, I don’t!

…Not even a potential relationship?

[Giggles] Look. As I said, during my reign I didn’t want to split focus and maybe I bumped into somebody that could’ve split my focus. Let’s just say he was gentleman enough to wait it out, and we having coffee soon, so…

Are you relieved that you won’t have to wear your sash anymore, or are you going to miss it?

You know, it’s another one of those ‘bitter sweet’ moments, cause I’m so used to putting it on. I must say, it does destroy an outfit every now and then.  Myself and my stylist used to joke about it and go, “Argh, the sash,” but it’s also about representing your brand as Miss SA.

After all the work you have been doing, do you plan on travelling the globe? Go on Holiday?

Yes, yes! I actually have my first small little trip coming up this weekend. I’ll just be going to Durban and then later on, halfway through the year, I’m planning to go to Zambia. My birthday is in December, and in the past 2 years I haven’t had the time to celebrate it in a big way. So I want to do something fun this year, maybe a cruise, who knows?

Any advice for ladies out there wanting to get into the beauty pageant world?

Finish school. Miss SA’s cut-off is age 27. If you go to varsity at 18, you will be done by 22, and then you enter –you grow at varsity. So finish school, and then think about the pageant.

If you have a daughter, would you encourage her to compete in pageants?

I would encourage her to do whatever she wants to do. With my little sister, who is 11 years younger than me, it’s almost like I have my little daughter back home and I always say to my family, “please don’t say to her, “why aren’t you like Liesl, Why don’t you act like Liesl?” you going to make her resent me,”  because maybe she is not like me. Maybe she is not a girl who likes high heels and pretty purses. Maybe she wants to wear sneakers and a hoodie, because that is who she is.

Is there a lot of backstabbing or bitchiness in the competitions?

I can’t speak for this year or years before mine, but you will see on my social media that after I was crown we had four chills during my reign. This was after I won, and I beat these girls, but we still were friends. With my year there was a lot of encouragement, there was a lot of, “can I wear your jacket? Can I wear those silver shoes of yours?” Not to say that we didn’t bicker, there were moments, but our group was very mature.

Where do you see yourself in 5 years’ time?

I have a vision board, and the main thing on my vision board is a big smiley face in the middle. I can be anywhere and have whatever destiny, but where I see myself in 5 years or 10 years’ time is happy. I think it’s just to build the life I promised my grandmother; she sacrificed everything for me. So in 5 years –I know she will still be around because I asked God – I want to be able to give her that life where she can do whatever she wants to, go wherever she wants to, never worry about the price tag, or about time.

We heard Morgan Freeman’s dramatic reading of Justin Bieber’s “Sorry” and now Thor, aka Chris Hemsworth, shows off his acting skills as he reads the lyrics to Rihanna’s “Work”.

Unfortunately Chris didn’t attempt RiRi’s Barbadian accent, but his cute Australian accent makes up for it. Chris put some real emotions into the reading, leaving BBC Radio host Nick Grimshaw slightly emotional, “Wow, it was like I was at the Globe watching Shakespeare.”

“It drummed up a whole lot of feelings,” Hemsworth responded. “Makes you just want to get to work.”

We all have that fear of falling off the treadmill – one wrong step and you’re face flat on the floor with potentially fewer teeth than you started off with.

Yet this is something Tay-Tay makes look graceful, with a full set of teeth still intact. In a new ad for Apple Music, Taylor can be seen bringing out her gangster side as she raps a verse from Drake’s “Jumpman” while running on the treadmill and fist-pumping (multitasking goals, much?) until the dreaded moment where she trips and face plants off the treadmill.

Alas, Tay isn’t injured… the girl lifts her head from the floor, continuing to rap – arm movements and all. Tay obviously practises what she preaches: shake it off.

It’s official – Kit Harrington and Rose Leslie, AKA Jon Snow and Ygritte, are a couple IRL! The co-stars, whose love sadly ended in tragedy in the show, have been spotted holding hands on various occasions but have never confirmed their relationship status, until now.

The couple were reportedly full of giggles and radiating honeymoon phase vibes  (guess Jon Snow does know something – get it?), as they walked the red carpet at the Olivier Awards in London on Sunday night.
