Want that promotion at work? Want to communicate something that has been bothering you? One obvious lesson you can learn from Cookie is to be outspoken.

It’s been five years since Toya Delazy burst onto the scene, signing her first record deal with Sony Music on April 19 in 2011.

Five years, multiple hit singles and multiple awards later, Toya is now making music on her own terms as the owner of her very own label, Delazy Entertainment.

Besides having already signed her first act, the all women rap group Klutch Kollective, of which Toya forms a part, on April 11, the 26-year-old is gearing up to release her first solo single, Nu High, as a totally independent artist on June 10.

“I wanted to grow as an artist and challenge myself musically,” Toya tells Grazia. “I was not the same artist they signed in 2011 and I did not want to have to keep trying to be that same ‘Toya Delazy of 2011’. I’ve grown a lot in the past five years. I want to be able to express my life changes musically without being restricted.”

And that’s kind-of where her group Klutch Kollective comes in too, “We felt there was a need for a conscious hip hop movement. To give a voice to issues through hip hop. Hip hop has become about cars, popping bottles and money and there was a gap to take hip hop back to a time where it was the voice to more conscious issues,” Toya reveals.

As scary as being her own boss might be, she could not be more excited about the future, “It’s never an easy decision to leave your comfort zone, but it was a necessary move for me to grow. There were people that tried to talk me out of it, but those close to me understood where I was coming from and gave me great support.

“Being the boss ensures that I’m able to be authentic with my music offering and not try fit into a prescribed mould of what is expected of me. I know I can’t do everything myself so I have a good team around me that allows me to focus on the creative side of my music, which is important and other aspects of the business don’t become my day-to-day tasks.”

And creativity is all around, “I’m inspired by my travels. Meeting new people and interacting with different cultures. It’s great to get a different perspective on life and experience life in such a colourful way.”

While Delazy Entertainment might only have a roster of two for a while, Toya has her eyes peeled for the kinds of artists she knows will be the perfect fit, “Artists that are truly authentic and aren’t afraid to push the boundaries and challenge themselves and the status quo will always be appealing to me and I may feel that I want to sign more of such artists in the future.”

In a shocking revelation, 21-year-old Henri van Breda – whose family was brutally murdered in January 2015 in their De Zalze Golf Estate just outside Stellenbosch – has confessed to the axe killings of his parents, Martin and Teresa, and brother, Rudi and for the attempted murder of his sister, Marli, who survived the attack. While Marli is suffering from retrograde amnesia (a loss of memory-access to events that occurred), the teen is reported to be back at school.

It was reported late yesterday afternoon that Henri reported to the Stellenbosch police station with his attorney where he handed himself over, after which he was arrested and charged. He will appear in court today and faces three counts of murder and one of attempted murder.

Henri van Breda, 21, has appeared in the Stellenbosch Magistrate’s Court in connection with the killings of three members of his family. He has been granted R100 000 bail.

NPA says Henri van Breda faces a charge of defeating the ends of justice, for allegedly tampering with the crime scene. 

According to NPA an axe and kitchen knife found at the crime scene.

Gender-neutral uniforms are now being implemented in schools across the UK.

The adoption of gender-neutral uniform policies forms part of a government funded initiative, Educate & Celebrate, which is a programme backed by the Department of Education in the UK that promotes an LGBT-inclusive curriculum to reduce discrimination and promote equality among students. It also strives to provide funding to schools to enable and implement such measures with the aim of improving the lives of LGBT students.

Allens Croft Primary School in Birmingham received £200 000 (R4 334 429.49) from the organisation and have subsequently introduced a policy that allows students to select which clothes they want to wear to school. In doing so, they “aim to promote each child’s right to express their gender and personality in whichever way feels right for them”. (Dazed Digital).

ADAM LEVINE IS PAYING FOR CHRISTINA GRIMMIE’S FUNERAL

Yesterday, we reported on the sad news that 2014’s The Voice singer Christina Grimmie was shot and killed while signing autographs after a concert. Now, her coach and mentor Adam Levine is offering to help her family by paying for her funeral. Christina’s brother, Marcus, shared the news with her fans on Facebook:

“I found out this morning that Adam Levine personally called my mother and said he will pay for the funeral and her plane flight, and I was blown away,”

A rep for Levine has confirmed that the Maroon 5 frontman made the offer.

Nothing is more entertaining than watching Hollywood’s A-listers belting it out on James Coden’s careoke. What we didn’t expect, however, is the magical performance by actors Jake Gyllenhaal and Sean Hayes at the Annual Tony Awards this past Sunday when host James Corden decided to pass the mic to the pair for a karaoke duet.

If you don’t know the name Jeremy Meeks, you’ll certainly remember his mugshot – it went viral in 2014 after the Stockton, California police department posted it on Facebook. Power duo Kendall Jenner and Gigi Hadid have just proved that you don’t want to mess with model besties. After OG supermodel Stephanie Seymour told Vanity Fair that the two girls don’t deserve the “supermodel” title and called them “bitches of the moment”, Kendall took to her app to voice her opinion:

“Gigi sent me the most recent rant, and I’m disappointed. If you’re going to tell us not to be in ‘your moment’ then don’t be in mine! This moment is all about being supportive—not cyberbullying. But if you choose to be a cyberbully, I’m going to stick up for myself,” she wrote.

“No one is trying to steal Stephanie Seymour’s thing, or trying to be her. I actually looked up to her. She has a daughter! I guarantee you that she didn’t imagine someone so publicly shaming her daughter when she made those comments about us being ‘bitches of the moment’.”

Kendall continued, “Being a ‘supermodel’ is a relative term. If people want to call Gigi and I supermodels now, it doesn’t take anything away from supermodels of the past. Obviously, I have so much respect for those women, but right now, we’re the models of this time. Significant? Maybe. Hardworking? For sure.

“When I’m older, I’m going to be so nice to anyone who’s trying to do the same thing as me. Meryl Streep and Michelle Obama’s 2015 More magazine feature was the first time the duo paired up for Meryl’s campaign for women’s equal rights, and now they’re at it again.

As part of Let Girls Learn, a US government initiative focused on helping girls access quality education, the actress is slated to join First Lady Michelle Obama, her daughters, Malia and Sasha, and mother, Marian Robinson, on their trip to Africa.

According to a White House press release, the Obama clan, Meryl and actress Freida Pinto will be travelling to various countries, includes Liberia and Morocco, to discuss the “challenges many girls in the region face in getting a quality education”. The First Lady will also meet with Liberia’s president, Ellen Johnson Sirleaf, to chat about educational barriers girls face in the country at a Peace Corps Training facility where young women are participating in a Girls Leading Our World camp.

Golly, it is not a good time for relationships in young Hollywood. Early this morning, news broke that rapper Iggy Azalea broke off her engagement with basketball player Nick Young – for good this time, according to TMZ, E! and People.

Iggy took to her social media to announce the break up, saying, “Unfortunately, although I love Nick and have tried and tried to rebuild trust in him, it’s become apparent in the last few weeks that I’m unable to.”

This is not the first time that their relationship has been tainted with trust issues. Remember not too long ago when Nick was secretly recorded on video by fellow teammate D’Angelo Russell apparently cheating on Iggy Igz?

Back then – although Iggy was furious – she decided to forgive Nick and give him one last chance…

Iggy ended her statement with, “It’s never easy to part ways with the person you planned your entire future with, but futures can be rewritten and, as of today mine, is a blank page.”

In yesterday’s Sunday World newspaper, journalist Ngwaka Malatji revealed and confirmed that actress and presenter Boity Thulo is indeed a trained sangoma after she gave in to her calling to become a traditional healer.

Boity was spotted wearing sangoma beads at last weekend’s SAMAs as she walked the red carpet, and according to Sunday World sources, Boity was telling her friends that she had completed her training in order to become a sangoma.

“Yes, I did go thwasa but I’m not going to practise as a sangoma. This is a very sensitive matter that I don’t want to talk about in the media. It’s a personal matter and way too deep to be reduced into a celebrity gossip in the newspaper. It’s a secret. It’s so much deeper,” Boity revealed to Sunday World.

She further revealed to the publication that she can’t and won’t disclose who her gobela (teacher) is, nor under which category she falls.

Just over a month ago, rumours started swirling after Boity donned sacred sangoma attire on Club 808. Cultural experts and groups explained that the outfit she was wearing is usually designed to be worn exclusively by sangoma initiates (or inyangas).

Boity simply responded by saying her outfit was in celebration of Africa Month.

After three years of are they/aren’t they, Jamie Foxx and Katie Holmes are officially an item according to E!.

How did this confirmation come about? According to E!, former Housewives of Atlanta star Claudia Jordan joined in on the Allegedly podcast (a podcast show hosted by comedian Theo Von and filmmaker/journalist Matt Cole Weiss, in which the hosts compete to see who has better “alleged” tales of celebrities) yesterday and accidently (on purpose) let it slip that the actors are totes a couple.

“[He's a] good friend of mine,” Claudia said. And when asked about Jamie’s relationship with Katie, she added, “He is very happy with her. I like that he seems very happy.”

Boom! We knew it! Engagement rumours started swirling in January when Katie was spotted wearing a ring on that finger, but until now there has never been any confirmation. Whether or not they’re engaged, you’ll have to stay posted to Grazia daily , but for now we think we have our new #couplegoals.

SELENA RECOVERS FROM FALL IN MOST EPIC WAY

Yesterday, we showed you a glimpse of how cool Selena Gomez is in her carpool karaoke episode with James Corden, and now Sel has certified her cool factor by laughing at herself when she lost her balance and fell on stage during her Revival tour. Like a pro, Selena poked fun at herself and jokingly told her fans, “First fall on the whole damn tour.”

ACTRESS SELMA BLAIR APOLOGISES FOR GOING CRAY ON PLANE

ICYMI, on Monday, actress Selma Blair, 43, lost her shit on the plane halfway through her flight to LA when she claimed that someone had been “burning” her private parts. Her rant sparked concern for her mental health – obviously. However, Blair has admitted that her rant was due to a concoction of alcohol and prescribed meds and has since released a statement and apology:
