We don’t really think we need to explain why Gabriel Macht, more famously known for his character as Harvey Specter on the TV series Suits, is an obvious choice for our Man Crush Monday.

He first made us sit up and take notice when he appeared in an episode in the first season of Sex and The City as Carrie’s modelliser-slash-artist friend. He then continued to woo us in perfectly fitted suits with his school boy charm, winning looks, puppy brown eyes and that perfectly just-enough-arrogance smile, we happily dedicate today’s MCM to Gabriel.

BAND AID 30′S first review of “Do they know it’s Christmas?” was released on UK’s X Factor on Sunday, all proceeds will be going towards the UN’s efforts to stop the spread of Ebola in West Africa. In a recent press conference Bob Geldof explained; “This video is targeted at West Africa. Africa is on the verge of radical, 21st century change, 7 of the top 10 fastest growing economies in the world, are African. It’s tragic that modernity has released this beast into the world that’s Ebola. This is a particularly pernicious illness, because it renders humans untouchable.” The track is bursting with star power and includes the likes of OneDirection, Bono, Rita Ora, Chris Martin, Ellie Goulding, Seal, Sinead O’Connor, Sam Smith, Emile Sande and Ed Sheeran. Matthew McConaughey received a star on the Hollywood walk of fame with his beautiful family by his side.  In his thank you speech he said; “I feel like it’s a privilege every single day that I get to get up on a Monday morning—I have a career that I look forward to Monday morning, to going to work. That I’m proud to be able to say.  This industry has given me a lot, it’s given me a chance to live out some dreams I didn’t even know I had, dreams I’m still finding along the way, and what other business can you go live ‘em out, but in this storytelling business?” 

Some of his famous pals were in attendance to celebrate wit him, including  Interstellar costars Anne Hathaway, Jessica Chastain and director Christopher Nolan.  Don Phillips, who cast Matthew in his first film, Dazed and Confused was also present. The Jameson First Shot film competition is back for a fourth year. In partnership with Kevin Spacey and Dana Brunetti of Trigger Street Productions, Jameson is on the hunt for the globe’s most gifted, undiscovered filmmakers with compelling stories to tell. Three talented winners will have the once-in-a-lifetime opportunity to have their scripts turned into short films and to direct Adrien Brody in the lead role. The winning shorts will be premiered in LA with the acclaimed team in attendance.

At the heart of the Jameson First Shot competition is the knowledge that for the wealth of filmmaking talent out there, getting a first shot in the industry is notoriously difficult. It is this insight that has compelled Oscar-winner Kevin Spacey and Trigger Street Production President/Producer, Dana Brunetti to champion the project since 2010.

Knowing just how difficult it is to get a break in the industry, Kevin Spacey sees it as his duty to help young talent: ‘If you’ve been successful at the career you wanted to have, it’s your obligation to spend a good portion of your time sending the elevator back down.’ The Jameson First Shot team are harnessing their collective power to do just this. Dana Brunetti, a world-class producer who will be making the winners’ films with his experienced crew, concurs: ‘Any time you can open a path for people who actually have talent to demonstrate’ says Brunetti ‘it’s a wonderful thing. Hollywood doesn’t have a monopoly on talent’

Adrien Brody will play the lead in this year’s winning films. His own journey from unknown actor to Oscar-winner was far from easy, making him a natural match for the competition. ‘Jameson First Shot affords talented writer/directors an important gift’ affirms Brody, ‘the confidence to exercise fearlessness and the opportunity to materialise their dreams’.

Such was the overwhelming response to last year’s competition; Jameson is expanding its catchment area to give more unearthed talent the chance to enter their work. Entrants living in the UK, Ireland, India, Australia and Canada, in addition to SA, Russia and the US, are now eligible to enter.

The hottest hip hop party in SA is going down this Friday in Newtown, and with a line-up including Khuli Chana, Tumi Molekane, AKA, Cassper Nyovest, Reason and Fifi Cooper, the good times are pretty much guaranteed.

In honour of this fact, we asked Khuli Chana and Tumi Molekane to answer a couple of questions for us…

When did you feel you’d made it in the industry?

Khuli: I felt successful when I scooped three SAMAs in one night. I still buzz with excitement every time i think about that night.

How much has hip hop in South Africa grown in the last 10 years, and do you think it’s heading in the right direction?

Tumi: It’s has definitely grown and things are looking good. I am a little philosophical about it though. People have finally caught on to the music, but I am not so sure the artists have…

What did it feel like the first time you ever took to the stage in front of an audience?

Khuli: I was so nervous! And the worst happened – somehow the sound guy didn’t have a mic for me, so I had to scream, and then we got kicked off stage.

Tumi: I can’t even remember the first time. I’ll tell you this though there was an incident when I was a child that prepared me for the stage.

Do you have any pre-show rituals?

Khuli: Take a shot of whisky, take a leak and PRAY…

Tumi: Yeah, I have to remind myself ‘I Got This’ like ‘This Is No Mistake’ and a little prayer.

What do you love most about performing at Maftown Heights?

Khuli: Running into Maftowners that I ain’t seen in a while. Maftown Heights is a reunion.

Tumi: I will be performing with Reason and I feel like I have front row seats to the best rapper in the country with him.

What should a first-timer to Maftown be prepared for?

Khuli: Prepare yourself for a world class show, it’s epic stuff.

Tumi: Uh, a very special performance of my new single ‘In defence of my art’

Victoria Secret- the creme de la creme of runway shows. Supermodels strutting their perfectly toned stuff down the runway in an assortment of wings (39 to be precise).

The spectacular show took place in London’s Earl Court last night, but was a far cry from being prim and proper.

Chanel has given us a perfect preview of a forthcoming project starring Cara Delevingne and Pharrell Williams. The pair feature in a film directed by creative director of Chanel, Karl Lagerfeld.

The film, Reincarnation, will pay homage to the iconic Chanel jacket and is set to an original song composed and performed by Williams, CC The World. Both the singer and the model will also appear in the accompanying campaign imagery for the Metiers d’Art collection.
The film follows Gabrielle Chaplin as she reprises her role as Coco Chanel. While on holiday at an Austrian resort, she is inspired by the outfit worn by her elevatory operator (Pharrell), which eventually becomes the iconic Chanel jacket. Pharrell and Delevingne travel back in time to play an Austrian emperor and his queen .A dream sequence ensues as Pharrell and Delevingne come to life from paintings of Franz Joseph I, the Emperor of Austria and Empress Elisabeth “Sisi” and perform a moonlit waltz to “CC The World”.
“It was time to show the origins of the Chanel jacket, inspired by the one worn by the lift attendant in a hotel near Salzburg in the 1950s,” says Lagerfeld. “Reincarnation is the story of a lift attendant’s jacket being reincarnated as a timeless piece of women’s wear.”

Since Ben Howard hit the international music scene and released his beautiful platinum selling and self-recorded debut album his popularity has continued to soar.
